American forward Gomez leaves Tijuana for Tigres

Herculez Gomez will continue playing in Liga MX next season, but he won't return to Tijuana. The American forward is joining Tigres, with club president Alejandro Rodriguez confirming the news Monday.

The Monterrey outfit will be the sixth Liga MX club Gomez has suited up for after stints with Puebla, Pachuca, Estudiantes Tecos, Santos and last year's disappointing campaign with the Xolos.

Gomez battled injury and once he was able to get on the field had an auspicious start, scoring a hat trick in a CONCACAF Champions League win against Victoria of Honduras. But the 32-year-old didn't score another goal for the border team, logging 21 league appearances without a tally.

Gomez is set to begin training Tuesday with Tigres, where he'll attempt to break into a forward line which includes Emanuel Villa and Alan Pulido, who is on Mexico's World Cup squad and has been linked with a move to Greek giant Olympiakos this summer.
