FIFA confirms license for Drogba's Galatasaray move

The Ivorian has been granted permission to represent the Istanbul giant, despite claims from Shanghai Shenhua that he was still contracted to the club.
FIFA has confirmed that it has granted a provisional license for Didier Drogba to represent Galatasaray.

The Ivorian sealed a move to the Turkish champion last month, only for his old club Shanghai Shenhua to claim that he was still contracted to the team.

However, the player's representatives maintained that he had the right to join another club due to nonpayment of wages, and his switch to Istanbul has now been ratified by the authorities.

"The Single Judge of FIFA's Players' Status Committee has authorized Turkish FF to provisionally register Didier Drogba," a statement on FIFA Media's Twitter page read.

"The Drogba decision is without prejudice and pending outcome of decision as to the substance of the contractual dispute with former club."

Drogba arrived in Istanbul last week to a rapturous reception from fans, and passed medical checks on Monday.
