Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refuses to rule out left back signing

With first-choice defenders Kieran Gibbs and Andre Santos both injured, the Frenchman admitted dipping into the market was a possibility after their match against Man United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out signing a left back this month.

Kieran Gibbs and Andre Santos, who would usually be competing for the position, are both out through injury, which led to Wenger resorting to temporary cover in Thomas Vermaelen and Ignasi Miquel for his side's defeat against Swansea City last weekend.

“Before Sunday's game nobody will come in so we will have now to focus on the players [we have],” the Frenchman told reporters on Friday. “I will assess the situation after the game on Sunday but until then nothing will happen now for us.”

Arsenal currently sits sixth in the Premier League with 36 points, 15 behind leader Manchester City.

Wenger's only signing so far this month has been the return of Thierry Henry on a two-month loan deal fromthe New York Red Bulls.
