Official: Roma signs Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg for 6.3 million euros

The Italian giants have finally wrapped up a transfer for the Dutch custodian after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs

Roma have completed the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, the Italian club has announced via their official website.

The Netherlands international penned a 2.7 million euro per season contract until the summer of 2015 after the two clubs agreed upon a 6.3 million euro fee.

The deal will see Ajax receive an additional 1 million euros should Roma subsequently sell the player or offer him a contract extension, and 500,000 euros for every time the Italian side reaches the Champions League from 2013 until 2016.

Stekelenburg is set to become Roma's first choice goalkeeper as coach Luis Enrique looks to put his stamp on his recently inherited side.

The Dutch keeper
, who has 40 international caps to his name, will join his second club, after making 282 appearances for Ajax over the last nine years.
