Eredivisie giant PSV has confirmed the transfers of Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman from fellow Dutch side Utrecht for a combined fee believed to be in the region of 13 million euros. Both players have signed contracts until the summer of 2016 with the Eindhoven club.

PSV was in the market for a new left winger because of the departure of Balazs Dzsudzsak to Anzhi Makhachkala last month, and sees the 24-year-old Mertens as the perfect replacement. The Belgium international had also been linked with clubs such as Ajax and Lokomotiv Moscow, but will continue his career in Eindhoven instead.

"It's simply amazing to have the chance to play for PSV. They always play for the league title and this transfer is like a dream come true. It took a while to complete the move, but I'm pleased that it's now a done deal," said Mertens.

The 21-year-old Strootman, meanwhile, is expected to replace experienced midfielder Orlando Engelaar in the PSV lineup. Engelaar has been linked with La Liga side Osasuna and is expected to leave the club this summer.

"I have very high expectations of my transfer to PSV and I'm eager to play for silverware here. I am very proud to have signed here and can't wait to prove my worth," commented Strootman on the PSV website.
