Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero has reached out to Italy at the World Cup, wishing them well as they embark on their campaign to defend their crown.
The moment of truth has arrived for Italy. And there will be no more talking come 20:30CET this evening when they kick off against Paraguay.
And Del Piero has delivered an encouraging speech for many of his friends in Cape Town.
"Dear friends, now it's down to you. From today, another Azzurri adventure begins and our world champions' title is back up for grabs," he told his official website.
"And you are ready to go and defend it."
Del Piero would have preferred to be present in South Africa, but he accepts the choices head coach Marcello Lippi made.
"I am not one who pretends, I have always said I would have liked to have been there with you, but neither am I one of those who doesn't support the team because I am not on the pitch.
"So, forza ragazzi, and good luck for tonight."
