Pachuca's young star is one of a growing number of players eligible for both the USA and Mexico who chose the United States.
After being discovered by scouts from Mexico, the native Texan moved to joing Pachuca's youth team and was eventually promoted to the senior squad.
The small midfielder then became more of a regular for the team.
His good form caught the attention of USA coaches. Torres turned down a spot on the USA's Olympic team roster to stay focused on his club. However, Torres accepted a callup by senior team coach Bob Bradley later on in 2008.
Though possessed of remarkable passing skills and a good feel for the game, the defense of Torres has at times been suspect. This could well be the main reason why he has not seen more regular playing time on the international level.
