WATCH: Julian Green scores in first Bayern start of the season

Julian Green scored a goal in his first start of 2016-17 for Bayern Munich on Wednesday, as he netted against Augsburg in a DFB Pokal match.

The U.S. international started as Bayern's lone striker, and looked sharp before glancing home Thomas Muller's cross with a header to the far post to make it 2-0 in the 41st minute.

Bayern would go on to win the match 3-1, as Green's goal stood up as the ultimate winner. Green would be subbed out of the match after 89 minutes.

The goal was Green's first competitive senior team goal for Bayern, as his only previous goals for the Bavarian club had come for the reserve team and in preseason friendlies this summer.

It was Green's first minutes for Bayern since making a 24-minute cameo off the bench against Carl Zeiss Jena in another cup match on Aug. 19. The 21-year-old has been named to Bayern's matchday squad on several occasions since then.

Green's goal also represented a milestone for his country.
