The Columbus Crew announced that they have acquired defender Amro Tarek on loan for the 2016 MLS season.
Tarek, 23, joins from La Liga side Real Betis. Before joining Betis in 2015, Tarek played two seasons in his native Egypt for El Gouna FC. He has also played with three clubs in Germany.
“Amro is a young player, but he brings a lot of experience at the professional level,” said Crew sporting director and head coach Gregg Berhalter in a club release. “He has displayed a good developmental path over the course of his career by virtue of playing at several quality clubs. We believe he is going to help bring depth and talent to our back line.”
Internationally, Tarek has made one appearance for the Egyptian U-20 side. Tarek was born in Los Angeles, meaning he remains eligible to represent Egypt or the United States at the international level.
