U.S. Soccer to host inaugural SheBelieves Cup in March

The United States, England, France, and Germany will compete in the tournament taking place in Florida and Tennessee.

U.S. Soccer has announced it will host the first ever SheBelieves Cup, which will take place in March and feature four of the top five women's teams in the world according to FIFA rankings.

England, France and Germany will join the USA for the tournament, which will be held from March 3-9 at three venues in the southeastern United States.

“When I took this job, one of my main objectives was to play the best teams in the world during our preparation periods and you can’t ask for better matches,” U.S. head coach Jill Ellis said in a news release. “This is another sign of U.S. Soccer’s dedication to the women’s game to organize a tournament like this, which will bring some of the world’s best teams and players to the USA."

The tournament will help the U.S. ramp up its preparations for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this summer and means the U.S. will not take part in the Algarve Cup in Portugal in the spring, as it has done for the past 18 years in a row.
