An announcement on the club's official website reads that Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax have decided to hand star player Luis Suarez a two-match ban following his involvement in an incident in the dying minutes of the Godenzonen's scoreless draw with rivals PSV.
Several players of both sides were involved in a row towards the end of the match and Suarez tried to take a bite out of PSV midfielder Otman Bakkal's left shoulder after the Dutch international allegedly stepped on Suarez's foot.
The referee somehow failed to spot the incident, but video replays clearly showed that the Uruguay international lost his temper and bit Bakkal.
The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) declared earlier on Monday that they've opened an investigation into the incident, but Ajax have decided to take matters into their own hands and have banned Suarez for the upcoming games against VVV and NEC.
It appears unlikely that Suarez will escape further measures from the KNVB though. Former Vitesse defender Sebastien Sansoni received a five-match ban for a similar incidents in 2007.
