The youngster is unhappy with his lack of first-team action at NEC and wants to move on to get regular starting opportunities. Jupiler League side Den Bosch recently showed interest in the 22-year-old attacker, but an agreement between the two clubs seems far away.
NEC lost three attackers with the return of Jeremain Lens (pictured) and the transfer of Australian international Brett Holman to AZ. Winger Kevin Bobson left the club on a free transfer. Only Lasse Schone was signed as a replacement, which means that the Nijmegen side are in need of some attacking players.
“We’re not letting anyone go before we sign an extra attacker,” said manager Mario Been to De Gelderlander. “I want Worm to stay with us, especially when he plays like he does in the pre-season.”
Nevertheless, Worm isn’t very optimistic about his chances of securing a spot in the starting eleven: “I need to play matches to improve and I don’t think NEC will give me that chance. The signing of Lasse Schone is a sign that there’s a lack of confidence in my abilities.”
The Nijmegen-born player made his debut for NEC during the 2004-05 season. He has scored four goals in 72 league appearances.
