Report: Former France striker Tony Vairelles arrested for attempted murder

The ex-France frontman is facing the possibility of doing time in jail for his part in a shooting outside a nightclub in Nancy
Former France striker Tony Vairelles has been arrested, along with three others, as part of an attempted murder investigation, AFP reports.

Vairelles, 38, was allegedly involved in a shooting in a nightclub near the French city of Nancy in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The former Lens and Olympique Lyonnais striker was allegedly part of a group that was thrown out of the nightspot for drunken behaviour and which later attacked security personnel with baseball bats and a .22 caliber rifle.

As a result of the incident, one person was wounded in the thigh, another in the hand, while a third man suffered injuries to the side.

Vairelles and the other three are in custody and will appear before a judge on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old, capped eight times with France, won league titles wth Lens in 1998 and with Lyon in 2003.
