Atletico Madrid beat Real Mallorca 4-3 on Saturday evening to finish seventh in La Liga, and coach Quique Sanchez Flores was satisfied with the result, but admitted that it has not been an easy campaign.
The former Valencia tactician will leave the club at the end of the season, after failing to guide the club back into the Champions League, and suffering an early exit from the Europa League.
"We knew that it was difficult, but we had a good game to complete the season. We also finished close to our objective of getting into the Champions League places. We're aware that it has been a tough season," Sanchez Flores said to AS.
Sanchez Flores then briefly reflected on his spell in charge of Atletico and made it clear that he was pleased overall with his efforts.
"We've been very happy winning the Europa League and next season the team will play in this competition. We appreciate what we've achieved.
"There were times during the season when we were six to eight points off the Europa League places. We've managed to get into this competition and we need to appreciate that."
