Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores has likened the situation of Uruguayan attacker Diego Forlan to that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona during the 2009-10 campaign.
Forlan has lost his starting berth in the past couple of weeks and has had to settle for a spot on the bench, much like the Swedish striker during the end of his spell at Camp Nou.
"It's my job to train the player and to make decisions. I haven't lost faith in any of my players, but I have to make sure that I field the best players," said Sanchez Flores to AS.
"Diego [Forlan] has now lost his spot in the starting XI, but the competition for places continues. His current situation can be compared to what happened with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona last season."
The 31-year-old has been struggling to find his best form since he returned to Atleti from the 2010 World Cup, where he was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournament's best player.
