U.S. Releases Gold Cup Roster

After the Confederations Cup end the U.S. Men’s National team will head back to the states and get ready for the kickoff of the Gold Cup. Well, at least a couple of them will.

U.S. Soccer released the Gold Cup roster today and only four members of the Confederations Cup squad will be with the team, with Charlie Davies being the only one of those four to have played in any of the U.S.’s first four Confed. Cup matches. Freddy Adu, Heath Pearce, and goalkeeper Luis Robles will venture with Davies from South Africa to Qwest field in Seattle for the U.S.’s Gold Cup opener on the July 4.

Despite the thought that Bradley would use the Gold Cup to run out a group of younger players, the U.S. will actually enter the tournament with a slightly older roster than the one that has made its way to the Confederations Cup final.

U.S. National Team veterans Brian Ching, Steve Cherundolo, and Jimmy Conrad headline the returning veterans on the squad, but Bradley has also added a number of MLS mainstays to his team.

Seven players on the roster- Jay Heaps, Sam Cronin, Logan Pause, Stuart Holden, Brad Evans, and Robles- will still be looking for their first appearance with the National Team.

In all the 23 man roster includes 15 players from Major League Soccer and only two returning players from the 2007 Gold Cup winning team.
