Costa Rica international defender Dennis Marshall was killed in a car accident on the Braulio Carrillo highway on Thursday.
The 26-year-old was reportedly driving home in the province of Limon, in Costa Rica, when he was involved in an accident to which circumstances remain a mystery. Marshall and his wife, who was with him, lost their lives as a result of the accident.
According to local media outlets, the first person to identify Marshall was a police officer who arrived on the scene of the accident.
Marshall, who transferred to AaB from Puntarenas in 2009, was a starter for his country at the Gold Cup. He scored Costa Rica's leveller against Honduras on Saturday in the quarterfinals, a match his side eventually lost on penalties.
