The U.S. youth international has left Hoffenheim to join the Bundesliga giant's Under-23 squad.
U.S. youth international Joe Gyau has taken a step up in the German hierarchy, leaving Hoffenheim for Bundesliga giant Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old winger had been with Hoffenheim since 2011, going on loan to second-tier St. Pauli for the 2012-13 campaign. He made his Bundesliga debut for Hoffenheim in April and finished the season with two league appearances.
Dortmund announced the transfer Monday, noting Gyau will start with the club's Under-23 squad.
The Silver Spring, Maryland, product has represented the USA at the U-15, U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels. He was a member of the Americans' Olympic qualifying squad in March 2012 and received his first full national team call-up later that year.
