“We appreciate Steven’s contributions while in Portland and wish him all the best,” said Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson in a statement published on the team’s official website.

Taylor was signed midseason on free transfer from Newcastle United after the club’s relegation from the English Premier League. Up until that point, the 30-year-old had never played outside of England.

The defender ended up playing in nine games for the Timbers down the stretch, all starts. He scored one goal.

Despite his short stay, Taylor penned a goodbye to the Timbers organization and its supporters, and added that he will continue to support the team, even though he is returning to Europe.
