LA Galaxy lose Gerrard and Van Damme in draw

The LA Galaxy may have suffered a costly draw Saturday evening, as the team was forced to take off Steven Gerrard and Jelle Van Damme in its 0-0 result against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Gerrard picked up a hamstring injury and was replaced in the 31st minute by Gyasi Zardes.

Van Damme picked up an injury to his left knee and departed in the 44th minute, replaced by Daniel Steres.

Neither player's status was updated by Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena follwing the contest.

The 36-year-old Gerrard has dealt with assorted knocks this season, but has managed to play in 19 of the Galaxy’s 26 games. He has scored three league goals on the campaign and has been a key figure in the Galaxy attack.

The 32-year-old Van Damme has played in 23 of the Galaxy’s MLS games this season, his first in the league, and has been an important piece in his side’s backline.

The Galaxy, now on a seven game winless streak, are next in action at home on Sept. 3 against the Columbus Crew.
