FRISCO, Texas — Mauro Diaz could be back in the FC Dallas midfield as soon as Saturday after making his return to training earlier this week.
Diaz left training Friday and later missed FC Dallas' 1-1 draw Saturday with Columbus Crew SC because of an injury FCD referred to as leg tightness. The midfielder will not appear on the team's injury report this week, but his status for Saturday's contest with the San Jose Earthquakes remains a question.
The Argentine playmaker returned to training Wednesday, though he did not go through the whole session. Still, coach Oscar Pareja said he was pleased with Diaz's recovery.
"Today was a very good day for Mauro," Pareja said after training Wednesday. "I’m not worried about (it) because he has no tear or anything, it’s just…fatigue. It’s made me be happy also just to see other players working and letting him rehab well.
"But today has been a good day. He was in the training today with the group, and we’ll see. We’ll get in and see how he is by Friday afternoon."
Diaz missed long stretches of the 2014 and 2015 MLS seasons with injuries, but this issue does not appear to be in the same are of the body where those injuries occurred.
