Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid will be back in 2016, returning for an eighth season as Sounders boss.
Speaking at the club's annual Alliance business meeting of Seattle's club members, Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey confirmed the decision.
“Let me put something to bed: Sigi is our coach,” Lagerwey said. “Sigi will be our coach. Sigi is my coach.”
Seattle has reached the playoffs in all seven of its campaigns under Schmid – the only coach the team has known as a MLS franchise.
Schmid, the former coach of the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew, has led Seattle to U.S. Open Cup titles in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014 and the Supporters' Shield in 2014, but never to a MLS Cup title.
The Sounders went 15-13-6 in 2015, good for fourth place in the Western Conference. They were eliminated by FC Dallas in the conference semifinal last weekend.
