The TV viewership for the MLS Cup final dropped by nearly half from 2009 to 2010, according to a report on Sports Media Watch.
The matchup between the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas earned a 0.5 overnight rating, a hefty drop-off from last year's 0.9 rating (also on ESPN) or even 2008's 0.7 (ABC).
Of course, two small market teams didn't help matters (Los Angeles featured in 2009 and New York in 2008), but 2010's final was also hindered by an overlap with the Philadelphia Eagles - New York Giants matchup in the NFL.
Overall, the 0.5 rating is the lowest for an MLS Cup final since records became available in 1999.
