Report: Sacha Kljestan To Sign For Anderlecht Within The Week

Kljestan could be off to Belgium before the World Cup.
Persistent rumors continue to link Sacha Kljestan with Anderlecht. The latest, from Het Laatste Nieuws, claim that Chivas USA's captain will sign with the Belgian club within the week.

This isn't the first time the mercurial Kljestan has flirted with a European move. Following a tremendous 2008 Major League Soccer campaign and a hat-trick for the United States national side against Sweden in January 2009, the midfielder spent time in Scotland on a trial with Celtic.

When that fell through, Kljestan returned to Chivas USA and suffered a noticeable dip in form throughout the rest of 2009. However, with the insertion of Martin Vasquez as the Goats' head coach, the 24-year-old has enjoyed an uptick in form in 2010, playing just behind a lone striker.

That positive form earned Kljestan a place on Bob Bradley's initial 30-man roster for the U.S. team during a training camp preparing for the World Cup. Though he didn't make the final 23-man squad, Kljestan impressed enough to tempt Anderlecht.

With Jonathan Bornstein likely to join Atlante in Mexico following the World Cup, Chivas USA could find itself deprived of its captain and vice-captain midseason.
