2009 MLS SuperDraft: Complete Rundown

The MLS SuperDraft is underway. Teams are gearing up for the 2009 season with fresh acquisitions, prospects, and wheeling and dealing.
Teams are beginning to take shape for their assault on the 2009 season, and the Major League Soccer SuperDraft is a big part of that. Some clubs are looking for key contributors on the pitch. Others want tomorrow's top star. Some want a bargaining chip in future trades. Whatever the motive, it's exciting.

"I’m excited," the forward gushed. "It’s an honor for me, honestly, and it’s a dream come true as well. I just really can’t wait to get started, you know? I’m so happy to be going there, to be playing for Coach [Sigi] Schmid, who I’ve obviously heard a lot about. He has a great track record and I respect him a lot as a coach, so I’m just ready to get started."

Toronto FC, who held the second and fourth overall picks, selected tidy Wake Forest midfielder Sam Cronin next. He should be able to step in immediately and help MLS's lone Canadian representative in their quest to make the playoffs for the first time in club history.

Tied for last place in the 2008 season, the Los Angeles Galaxy are looking to regain past glories. With the most leaky defense last season, they went about adding to 2008's rookie of the year Sean Franklin in the back by selecting defender Omar Gonzalez of the University of Maryland.

"I'm excited to be with LA," he told Goal.com exclusively. "I can't wait to step onto the field with Beckham and Donovan and all those guys. I'm really hoping to learn a lot from those guys.

"[Head Coach and General Manager] Bruce [Arena] has coached great players in his time. He's made players what they are now. It's going to be an unbelievable experience. I'm ready to get started."

The first three picks went exactly as Goal.com's Kyle McCarthy predicted in his mock draft.
