That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
This win moves United up to sixth in the table ahead of their next game against Leicester on Thursday. Meanwhile Southampton are 13th and they'll welcome Chelsea to St Mary's on Tuesday evening.
United make it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 success over Southampton, thanks to a superb Fernandes finish on 55 minutes. It’s remarkable that there was only one goal in this game as both teams had several chances to score before Fernandes finally broke the deadlock with a cool volley from the edge of the box. Southampton pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but De Gea was there to superbly deny Aribo from close range and the home side just couldn’t find a way through the United defence.

90' + 4' CHANCE! Stuart Armstrong whips a deep cross into the box from the left, which is kept in play by Walker-Peters as he heads the ball back across goal and Mara attempts an overhead volley. However, United have men back and clear the danger.
90' + 3' Southampton are running out of time to get an equaliser now, but they are still pushing forward when they can and United have everyone camped deep inside their own half.

Manchester United
90' + 2' United change now, with Eriksen coming off and Fred replaces him.
90' There will be a minimum of six minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
Lyanco
J. Aribo
Southampton
89' Aribo is the other to depart and on comes Lyanco.
R. Perraud
M. Djenepo
Southampton
89' Double Southampton change coming up now, with Djenepo the first to come off and he has been replaced by Perraud.
87' Following his goal against Liverpool on Monday, Rashford is looking to score in consecutive Premier League appearances for the first time since January, when he netted against West Ham and Brentford, both times as a sub. Rashford hasn’t scored an away Premier League goal when starting a match since Boxing Day 2020 against Leicester.
85' Bella-Kotchap gets into a good position in the United box and works some space for a shot, but he sends his effort high over the crossbar.
S. McTominay
Yellow Card
Manchester United
83' McTominay is booked for deliberately stopping a Southampton counter-attack.
82' We're into the final 10 minutes now, can Southampton create something late on and nick a point? United look happy with the 1-0 scoreline at the moment.
Casemiro
A. Elanga
Manchester United
80' Here comes Casimiro for his United debut, he replaces Elanga.
79' It looks like Ronaldo is going to carry on for now, but Casemiro has been getting ready on the sidelines to replace him just in case. So we may see a debut from the former Real Madrid man today.
S. Mara
A. Armstrong
Southampton
77' Another Southampton substitution now as Adam Armstrong heads off and Mara replaces him.
75' Ronaldo appears to have an issue for United and he's receiving some treatment on the pitch. He hasn't been on for long, so it'll be a blow for the visitors if he has to come off.
73' The United defence don't look comfortable dealing with the Southampton attackers at the moment, especially Adams, who has caused problems all day.
71' Penalty appeal! Southampton appeal again for a spot-kick, after Adams takes on Martinez in the box and goes down under pressure. However, once again the referee waves away their appeals.
70' ALMOST! Ronaldo almost turns away in the box and gets a shot away, after McTominay feeds him, but Djenepo gets back and makes an excellent challenge to deny Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo
J. Sancho
Manchester United
68' United now make their first change as Sancho heads off and Ronaldo is his replacement.
66' CHANCE! Adam Armstrong gets away from his marker and delivers a good cross into the box from the left, which is met by Aribo at the near post and he powers a header towards goal. However, De Gea pulls off an excellent save to deny him, but he can only push the ball into the path of Walker-Peters, who has a go, but his header flies just over the bar. So close to an equaliser!
65' United haven't done much since going ahead, they are allowing Southampton to have more of the ball and they are sitting deep to try and preserve their lead.
S. Armstrong
M. Elyounoussi
Southampton
63' Southampton make their first substitution, with Elyounoussi the man coming off and he has been replaced by Stuart Armstrong.
62' After losing four of their last six league games against Southampton at the Dell, Manchester United have lost just once in 14 league visits to St Mary’s (W8 D5) and are unbeaten in their last 11 at the ground since a 1-0 loss in August 2003.
60' PENALTY SHOUT! There are huge appeals from the Southampton players and supporters for handball against McTominay in the box, after the ball appears to strike his arm as Adams controlled a high ball. However, the referee isn't having any of it and waves away their appeals.
59' This is a bit better from Southampton, they are having more possession in the United half, with the visitors sitting deep to soak up the pressure.
57' Can Southampton react quickly to going a goal behind? They haven't seen much of the ball in the United half in this second period so far.
Diogo Dalot
Assist
Manchester United
55' Dalot raced down the right wing and spotted the run of Fernandes on the edge of the box, picking him out perfectly with his pass and Fernandes did the rest with a fine finish.
Bruno Fernandes
Goal
Manchester United
55' GOAL! UNITED TAKE THE LEAD! It’s a lovely move by the visitors, which is superbly finished off by Fernandes. It involves lots of quick one touch passes in the final third, before Dalot whips a low cross towards Fernandes on the edge of the penalty area and he volleys the ball first-time into the bottom left corner of the net. They lead 1-0!
53' Stoppage in play here as Bella-Kotchap is down with an injury and is receiving some medical treatment. It looks like a painful one, but the defender should be fine to continue.
52' GREAT TACKLE! Elanga thought he was through on goal with just the keeper to beat, after a lovely one-two with Fernandes. However, Bella-Kotchap gets across and makes an excellent challenge to prevent the shot, great defending.
Diogo Dalot
Yellow Card
Manchester United
50' The first yellow card of the game is shown to Dalot after he stops Djenepo after the full-back skipped past him.
49' SAVE! McTominay sneaks in behind the Southampton defence after a ball over the top and the midfielder volleys an effort towards goal, however, Bazunu pulls off a strong save to deny him.
48' Fairly even start to the second period so far, both teams just feeling themselves back into the match after a hectic opening half.
46' The second half is under way!
It could go either way at the moment, with United not looking particularly comfortable at the back and Adams seems to have the beating of them so far. However, we’ve seen that United can cause problems themselves as well, it’s just a case of converting those chances in front of goal.
It’s level at the break between Southampton and Man United, but both teams have had a couple of excellent chances to open the scoring in the first half. United went close first, with Elanga superbly denied by Bazunu from close range, before Bella-Kotchap made a great block to deny Eriksen on the rebound. Meanwhile Adams has looked dangerous in front of goal for the home side and he’s tested De Gea on a few occasions so far, with the United keeper having to make a number of saves to deny him.
45' HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 MAN UTD
45' Into the wall! Fernandes steps up to take a free-kick just outside the box, but he doesn't get enough on it and it flies into the wall. Well defended by the Saints.
44' Free-kick to United in a good shooting position right on the edge of the box after Aribo trips McTominay up. It looks like either Eriksen or Fernandes are going to have a go from here.
42' In their 2-1 win at Leicester, Adams became the first Southampton substitute to score twice in a Premier League match since Sadio Mane in March 2016 vs Liverpool. Adams last scored in consecutive league games in February, with the second of those games coming against Manchester United.
40' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
38' CHANCE! Adams once again with the opportunity! Elyounoussi plays a superb pass in behind the United defence for Adams to run onto the end of. The striker meets it and goes for goal from a tight angle, but De Gea is able to make a good save to deny him.
36' Adams is looking dangerous up front for Southampton, he's already had some good opportunities and seems to have the beating of the United defence when he gets on the ball in the box.
34' A couple of really good chances for Southampton recently in front of goal, they need to take one of them so they aren't caught out later on. Pretty even so far.
32' CHANCE! Armstrong does well down the left and then crosses to Adams in the box, who turns quickly in the box to get away from Martinez and then Adams fires an effort towards goal, but it's too close to De Gea, who is able to make the save. Either side of the keeper and that might have gone in.
31' CHANCE! Ward-Prowse whips a corner in from the right and it's flicked on by Adams, before falling to Bella-Kotchap at the far post. However, the defender smashes his shot over the crossbar.
31' We’re past the half an hour mark now and it remains goalless between Southampton and Man United, but the visitors have gone the closest through Elanga and Eriksen.
29' Decent effort! Adams gets above Dalot in the box and powers a header towards goal, but he gets too much on it and the ball flies over the crossbar and lands on top of the net.
27' Southampton have lost five of their last seven Premier League home games (W1 D1), with their 1-0 victory against Arsenal the only game in which they’ve not conceded at least two goals in this run.
25' Eriksen is starting to influence the game a lot in midfield, constantly getting on the ball and opening up space in the Southampton defence with his creativity and movement.
23' Southampton have everyone sitting deep inside their own half at the moment as United continue to press forward in search of the opening goal, getting closer and closer to the Saints final third.
21' That's much more like it from United, they should be ahead as both Elanga and Eriksen should have converted their chances, but the Saints defence kept them out.
19' UNITED CHANCES! How did they not score? First Fernandes go for goal with a header from close range, but he doesn't get enough direction on it and the rebound falls to the feet of Elanga, who only has Bazunu to beat, but the keeper pulls off a great save. The ball then bounces dangerously around the penalty area and is picked up by Eriksen, who looks certain to score, but a combination of Bazunu and Bella-Kotchap make the block.
17' Neither side have created a goalscoring chance in the final third, with both keepers yet to have a save to make. Just needs an injection of pace at the moment.
15' United are enjoying a bit more possession now, but Southampton are pressing them high up the pitch and not allowing them any time or space in their half.
13' Decent chance! A deep cross into the box from the right falls to Armstrong at the back post and he tries to guide his header into the bottom right corner of the net. However, it doesn't have enough pace on it and De Gea easily gathers.
12' Southampton are winless in their last 12 Premier League games against Man Utd (D7 L5), since a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in January 2016.
10' Blocked! The ball falls nicely to Elyounoussi on the edge of the penalty area and he tries to fire a shot towards goal, but it's well blocked by Malacia and United can go on the counter up the other end of the pitch.
8' United haven't settled into their passing game, they are struggling to keep hold of the ball in midfield and Southampton are playing well so far. Bit scrappy at times.
6' Great play and skill by Armstrong to win the ball back of Malacia and then turn and try to feed a team-mate in behind, but his pass is poor and United clear the danger.
5' Bazunu has to react quickly as a long ball comes over the top of the Southampton defence and the keeper has to race out and heads it out of play, to prevent Rashford from getting on the end of it.
3' Decent start here by Southampton, they are keeping the ball well in midfield and managed to get a cross into the box from the right wing, but it's easily gathered by De Gea.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
Meanwhile the visitors stick with the same team that beat Liverpool, so there is no place in the starting line-up for new signing Casemiro, or Ronaldo, both of whom are on the bench.
Southampton make just one change to the side that beat Leicester last weekend, with Adams coming into the starting line-up, after his two goals in that game as Mara drops to the bench.
