Commentary

Thanks for joining us for this 1-1 draw between Leipzig and Freiburg. Until next time, goodbye!
While they trailed and could have lost it in stoppage time, Leipzig will be frustrated to take just a point. They are four points behind Bayern, but the leaders now have a game in hand. Leipzig play Mainz next, while Freiburg host Werder Bremen.
There were no fans at Red Bull Arena to see it, but we were treated to a thriller on the Bundesliga's return. Freiburg led entirely against the run of play through Gulde, with Leipzig taking until the 77th minute to equalise. Poulsen finally scored after he and his team-mates had passed up a number of opportunities. The VAR denied Koch at the last, and the points are shared.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: RB Leipzig 1-1 Freiburg
90' + 4' NO GOAL! Leipzig are saved by the officials! Koch stabbed in from Holer's header, but the substitute providing the assist was offside. Both sides will now feel they should have won this game.
90' + 3' THE WINNER?! Sensational! It looks to be 2-1 to Freiburg! Koch has the ball in the net, but the VAR is checking the goal...
90' + 1' Leipzig - or Freiburg - have four minutes of added time to find a winner.
N. Schlotterbeck
J. Schmid
90' SUB: Freiburg bring on Schlotterbeck as they attempt to see out the draw. Schmid makes way.
88' MISS! Remarkable! Schick has to score! Angelino crosses low from the left, and the substitute fails to make any contact at all. Freiburg breathe a sigh of relief.
86' The flag is up against Gulde, sparing the blushes of the first-half goalscorer. Lookman's foul gives Freiburg a free-kick in a dangerous area on the left, and Gulde is picked out all alone in the centre. The defender nods over the top, but he was clearly offside.
84' SAVE! Just! Schwolow spills from Sabitzer but gets to the loose ball just in time. Poulsen launches himself at a high ball, allowing Lookman to control for Sabitzer. A snapshot is too hot for Schwolow to handle, yet he is alert to beat Schick to the rebound and win a free-kick.
P. Schick
C. Nkunku
81' SUB: Leipzig's third change is an attacking one. Schick comes in for Nkunku.
80' Schwolow has to be alert once more to cut out a low cross in front of Poulsen. Leipzig are all over Freiburg as they chase a precious winner.
79' There is still no relenting. Werner attacks down the left and sends in a low ball that Lookman cannot quite get a touch to. The ball passes across the face of the Freiburg goal.
K. Kampl
Assist
77' Kampl has delivered crosses for Werner and for Lookman that have not resulted in goals. This one did. An excellent delivery is rewarded with a superb finish.
Y. Poulsen
Goal
77' GOOAAALLLL!!! Finally! 1-1! Poulsen levels for Leipzig. Kampl, who has been brilliant, crosses, and Poulsen is up above everyone to tower a header into the bottom-left corner. The hosts deserve that goal and will now fancy another.
76' Speculative again, this time from Sabitzer, as the ball rolls wide. There is a slight deflection, though, and Leipzig have another corner. Nkunku's delivery is cleared on this occasion.
74' The shots keep raining in. Lookman lashes wide now. Schwolow will take his time with the goal-kick.
73' CHANCE! Poulsen wants a penalty but he should score! With time and space in the area, the striker blazes over from 15 yards and then goes down under pressure from a defender. A really poor miss, as Leipzig squander yet another opportunity.
72' SAVE! Stunning stop! Schwolow denies Werner! Lookman turns and darts at the Freiburg defence before feeding Werner. The pass forces the striker wide, but he still shoots on target, and Schwolow's trailing leg just turns the ball away.
70' Sabitzer is immediately involved, delivering a teasing cross from the right. Freiburg clear, though, and they have the bodies to wrestle the ball from Lookman following a one-two with Werner in the middle.
M. Sabitzer
T. Adams
69' SUB: Leipzig respond with a change of their own. Sabitzer, who scored twice against Tottenham in the Champions League last time out, is on for Adams.
L. Waldschmidt
V. Grifo
68' SUB: It's a double substitution for Freiburg, as the highly rated Waldschmidt replaces Grifo.
J. Haberer
N. Petersen
68' SUB: Freiburg's top scorer has scarcely been involved and makes way for Haberer.
66' Leipzig have had 76 per cent of the possession and seven shots since half-time. Freiburg are hanging on.
64' This is one-way traffic, but Leipzig might wonder if they have missed their best chance. Angelino crosses from the left and the ball loops up for Adams, yet his header is aimless. Schwolow claims calmly.
62' Freiburg are under the cosh, and Grifo attempts to give them a lift in spectacular fashion. With Gulacsi off his line, the Freiburg man launches in a shot from halfway. The ball drops well wide, though.
L. Höler
R. Sallai
61' SUB: Sallai, who was booked early on, makes way for Holer.
60' BLOCK! CHANCE! Leipzig are rampant! Yet they still trail! Werner profits from a Freiburg slip and takes his time to pull a pass back for Kampl in the centre of the area. A defender clears in front of the goal line, yet Werner soon has the ball again. He rifles in a cross, but Poulsen heads wide.
57' SAVE! Leipzig are really turning up the heat again now! Nkunku shoots low, and Schwolow's save just evades a couple of onrushing home attackers on the follow-up.
56' HUGE MISS! Unbelievable! Lookman skews wide from point-blank range! A glorious Kampl cross finds Lookman's run from deep, and the former Everton forward is completely unmarked inside the six-yard box, meeting the ball on the half-volley. Schwolow is rooted, yet the ball flies wide.
55' CHANCE! Poulsen cannot hit the target! Werner gets through so much work and wins the ball on halfway, springing a counter. Poulsen turns on the edge of the area but drags a shot across the face of goal.
54' Crucial clearance from Angelino! Gunter does really well to get in down the Freiburg left and lifts over a dangerous cross. Angelino, the left-wing-back on the opposite side, heads away from the toe of an attacker.
53' Once more, Angelino cannot find a team-mate from a corner. Schwolow claims. Leipzig are starting to get a little frustrated.
52' SAVE! That could have been awkward for Schwolow! Leipzig attack, but both Poulsen and Kampl take too many touches inside the area. Finally, Halstenberg hammers in a powerful drive that the goalkeeper fists away.
51' Gunter delivers a corner from the right, and a flick at the near post almost causes some issues for Leipzig. Halstenberg gets up to head clear.
50' Good work from Grifo! Freiburg fancy a second, and the winger cuts inside from the left and smashes in a low shot that Klostermann blocks behind. Grifo wants handball and a penalty. The referee is not interested.
48' Leipzig struggled to respond to the Freiburg goal before the break and, although they are again in possession, the hosts have not made any early headway in the second period.
46' KICK-OFF: Leipzig get us back under way as they pursue a second-half turnaround.
A. Lookman
N. Mukiele
46' SUB: A first change for Leipzig. Lookman, a winger, replaces Mukiele, who had been playing at centre-back. An interesting switch.
The two coaches have five substitutions each to work with following a temporary IFAB rule change, and Nagelsmann might well look to his bench as Leipzig threaten to blow an opportunity to pile pressure onto Bayern following the break.
Considering the sides have been out of action for more than two months, this has been a relatively entertaining contest. And Leipzig will wonder quite how they are a goal behind. After working Schwolow on a couple of occasions, they conceded to Gulde's strange strike. Freiburg could have then added a second, too.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: RB Leipzig 0-1 Freiburg
45' + 1' There will be a minimum of one minute of added time.
45' Angelino's delivery has been so poor. Adams works space in the area but can only win a corner with a low cross. Angelino's corner is cleared and Freiburg almost counter.
44' CLOSE! So close to a second! Freiburg win a corner on the counter, although Grifo's latest effort is knocked away. Leipzig struggle to regroup, though, and Gunter controls well on the left-hand side of the area. With the angle narrowing, he blasts across Gulacsi and just past the post.
43' The hosts were excellent for half an hour but have struggled since the goal. Poulsen fouls his man in the middle from the latest Leipzig cross, allowing Freiburg to come forward again.
42' Leipzig have pressed hard, but they are almost caught out at the other end in similar fashion. Gulacsi hacks a poor clearance straight to Schmid under pressure. However, the wing-back goes for goal himself from a long way out and blazes over the top.
40' Nkunku's effort is deflected behind, and Leipzig again cannot make the most of a corner. Angelino's effort does not beat the first man, before a second centre clears the box.
38' Leipzig are building again, but Freiburg have dropped even deeper, happy seemingly to protect their lead. There is a long way to go yet, though.
36' Coming into this match, Leipzig had the joint-best defence in the Bundesliga - conceding 26 goals, along with Bayern. That is now 27. And Gulde's goal is just the second Leipzig have conceded in six league games.
V. Grifo
Assist
34' It appeared at first as though the corner from Grifo had drifted all the way in. Gulde gets the slightest touch to leave Gulacsi stranded, and the Freiburg players celebrate by touching elbows.
M. Gulde
Goal
34' GOOAAALLLL!!! Incredible! 1-0 Freiburg! Gulde scores an unorthodox opener completely against the run of play. A rare corner for the visitors is delivered low and Gulde flicks the ball in with his heel as he leaps at the near post. It does not look entirely intentional, but that matters not.
32' Leipzig have been frustrated so far, but they have scored in all 12 of their prior home league games this season. They are unbeaten in nine at Red Bull Arena in the Bundesliga, too.
30' BLOCK! Koch denies Kampl! The midfielder continues to link up with Werner, who is provider this time with a square pass inside the area. Kampl's shot is goalbound, but Koch blocks. A teasing corner then bounces all the way through the Freiburg box.
27' Schwolow is scrambling! It's an awkward effort from Adams, leaping into a volley, but the goalkeeper is not entirely sure as the ball loops wide.
26' Leipzig are relentless. Kampl crosses from deep, with Werner again lurking at the far post, but Heintz clears. A corner then comes to nothing.
R. Sallai
Yellow Card
24' YELLOW: The first booking of the match goes to Sallai for a high challenge on Poulsen. The Leipzig man is caught on the knee.
23' Disappointing from Laimer! Leipzig get so many players into the final third, and they stay patient, even when Werner cannot shoot from Kampl's deep cross. The ball finally arrives on Laimer's toe on the edge of the area, yet his shot is tame and deflects off Poulsen into Schwolow's grateful arms.
21' Freiburg enjoy their best move of the match so far, but a pair of crosses - first from Schmid and then from Sallai - are comfortably cleared.
20' A few scrappy fouls in the middle of the pitch have slowed the match slightly. The latest sees Nkunku chopped down as he skilfully carries the ball forward.
18' Leipzig have had 57 per cent of the possession and all of the game's four shots so far. They are dominant.
17' More good play from Leipzig. Werner slides Poulsen through on the right, and a measured cross almost finds Angelino at the far post. A Freiburg defender hacks clear.
15' Acrobatic effort from Poulsen. From the corner after Laimer is diverted away from goal, the Leipzig striker volleys high over the top.
14' SAVE! Stunning counter! Gulacsi launches a throw forward after claiming a Freiburg corner. Werner races through and shoots hard and low. Schwolow parries, and Laimer cannot work in an effort on the rebound.
14' Petersen outmuscles a Leipzig defender from a long ball forward, allowing Sallai to get a cross in. Freiburg have a corner as Klostermann blocks, yet Gulacsi gathers.
11' Brilliant from Werner! The striker gets back to steal the ball after a rare Freiburg foray, and he then carries Leipzig forward. A cute pass finds Poulsen, but his cross is blocked.
9' Leipzig are well on top so far. Mukiele cannot find a team-mate with a cross from the right, but Freiburg are working hard to keep the hosts at bay.
8' SAVE! Smart from Schwolow! After a free-kick from the right, the ball falls for Adams to fire in a powerful low shot. The goalkeeper gets down to parry.
6' The strange conditions have not prevented a few meaty early challenges. Poulsen is putting himself about up front for Leipzig.
5' Good work from Gulacsi! Gunter gets in down the Freiburg left and sweeps in a teasing low cross that the goalkeeper does well to claim. Petersen was lurking.
4' Sallai goes down in the area after appearing to beat the Leipzig back line. Mukiele, who appears to have shifted inside to allow Adams to play on the right, nudges the attacker. No foul given.
3' It's all Leipzig in the early stages. Angelino cannot control on the left, though, and an attack peters out.
2' CLOSE! Laimer almost nets an early opener! Leipzig get men forward and the ball is knocked square to Laimer 20 yards from goal. His right-footed shot drifts just wide of the left-hand post.
1' Werner looks to have an early opportunity to run at the Freiburg defence, but Poulsen is penalised for a high boot as he knocked the ball through to his strike partner.
1' KICK-OFF: Freiburg get us under way at an empty Red Bull Arena!
Leipzig have won all three of their Bundesliga home games against Freiburg - by an aggregate scoreline of 10-2. However, only Bayern (four) have beaten Leipzig more times in the top flight than Freiburg (three, tied with Borussia Dortmund).
Star Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano is out through suspension, so versatile midfielder Adams appears set to deputise in defence. Highly sought-after 21-goal striker Werner will look to provide the spark for the hosts. Petersen, with eight strikes, is Freiburg's leading marksman.
Subs: Niclas Thiede, Nico Schlotterbeck, Amir Abrashi, Lucas Holer, Gian-Luca Waldschmidt, Janik Haberer, Gian-Luca Itter, Kwon Chang-hoon, Lino Tempelmann.
Freiburg (3-4-3): Alexander Schwolow; Manuel Gulde, Philipp Lienhart, Dominique Heintz; Jonathan Schmid, Robin Koch, Nicolas Hofler, Christian Gunter; Roland Sallai, Nils Petersen, Vincenzo Grifo.
Subs: Yvon Mvogo, Willi Orban, Ibrahima Konate, Marcel Sabitzer, Amadou Haidara, Ademola Lookman, Hannes Wolf, Patrik Schick, Dani Olmo.
RB Leipzig (3-5-2): Peter Gulacsi; Lukas Klostermann, Tyler Adams, Marcel Halstenberg; Nordi Mukiele, Kevin Kampl, Konrad Laimer, Christopher Nkunku, Angelino; Timo Werner, Yussuf Poulsen.
Let's get the team news from Red Bull Arena...
Third-placed Leipzig will hope the unexpected pause does not knock them off their stride. Julian Nagelsmann's side have enjoyed an excellent season, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals while maintaining a domestic title bid. They are five points behind leaders Bayern Munich, while visitors Freiburg are in eighth.
The Bundesliga is back! Sport was suspended worldwide in March amid the coronavirus pandemic, but a number of elite competitions are now attempting to make a return. Germany's top flight is among the very first to resume behind closed doors.
