Commentary

Thanks to Otamendi's late goal, that was City's most comprehensive victory in the league since Guardiola took charge. It certainly showed, as the home side were all over their visitors from start to finish. Palace enjoyed a decent spell towards the end of the first half but completely collapsed after the break, and from then onwards they were second best in every department.
FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 CRYSTAL PALACE
K. De Bruyne
Assist
De Bruyne's cross right on to the head of Otamendi was excellent but, once again, Palace were all over the place at the back. No one tracked the run of the defender and gifted him an easy opportunity to head in City's fifth goal of the day.
N. Otamendi
Goal
GOAL! Otamendi piles more misery on Palace! The free-kick is floated into the penatly area and finds Otamendi completely unmarked, and the Argentine is easily able to beat Hennessey with a wonderful low header.
D. Delaney
Yellow Card
Delaney clumsily fouls Sane and leaves the referee with no choice but to award City a free-kick in a dangerous position and show the centre-back a late yellow card.
De Bruyne and Clichy link up well deep down the left wing before City win themselves another corner. It's fired into the heart of the box by the Belgian and finds Otamendi, who sends a bullet header sailing over the top of the crossbar before he's penalised for a push.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be three minutes of added time.
Vital parry by Caballero! Zaha is bundled over on the right flank, resulting in a free-kick for the visitors in a promising position. It's quickly sent short to the Ivory Coast international, who then fizzes a dangerous pass across the face of goal, but Caballero does well to get a hand on the ball to stop it from finding Benteke.
Sterling battles his way down the left flank and holds up the ball before eventually settling for a corner. De Bruyne steps up and whips a low cross towards the near post, but it's easily dealt with by the Palace defence before it can find a blue shirt.
It's all City at the moment, but they don't seem to be in a great hurry to push forward. They're comfortably holding on to possession and easily knocking the ball around a clearly demoralised Palace side.
Navas
L. Sané
And the second is Jesus Navas, who takes the place of Sane out wide.
K. Iheanacho
Gabriel Jesus
City have decided to make a double substitution. The first player to come on is Kelechi Iheanacho, who replaces Jesus.
City almost make it 5-0! A low cross from Clichy isn't fully dealt with by the Palace back line and falls to Jesus, who, with his back to goal, can't quite get a shot away. He's able to tee up Fernandinho though, but the Brazilian's wild effort sails well wide of the goal.
P. Zabaleta
Assist
Zabaleta did really well to nod the ball down to Sterling, but, once again, Palace shot themselves in the foot with really poor defending. Despite doing relatively well towards the end of the first half, it's been a very poor afternoon for the visitors.
R. Sterling
Goal
GOAL! It's yet another for City! A beautiful cross-field pass flies over to the right-hand side of the Palace penalty area and finds Zabaleta, who quickly nods the ball down to Sterling. The winger is left all alone in front of goal and is easily able to unleash a thumping strike that easily flies into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Ward is still off the pitch receiving treatment, meaning that Palace will have to play with 10 men whilst he's patched up. City clearly smell blood and are piling plenty of bodies forward as a result.
The free-kick is finely taken and it's Van Aanholt who curls a cross into the City box. It's poorly hit by the Dutchman, however, and fails to pick out a yellow shirt in front of goal.
Sane barges into Ward and catches the Palace defender with a strong challenge, resulting in a free-kick for the visitors and a bloody nose for the full-back. He seemed to get struck in the hose by a flailing arm from the City man.
D. Delaney
M. Kelly
Kelly makes way for Damien Delaney in a third and final alteration for the visitors.
Toure lumps a lofted pass up towards the Palace penalty area and into the path of Sane once again, but this time it's Ward who cuts out the danger before the German can make contact with the ball in front of goal.
Huge chance for Sane! A bouncing cross from Fernandinho flies into the middle of the Palace box and finds Sane in an excellent position, but the German can't make decent contact with the ball and sends his side-footed strike comfortably wide of the far post.
The resulting corner initially fails to cause too many problems for the City defenders before Zaha weaves his way into the box on a lovely run. He can't find a way through a sea of blue shirts, however, as they close him down well before the ball is eventually blasted up towards the halfway line.
Flamini goes close! Palace do well to carve out a chance on goal after the City back line fail to fully deal with a deflected pass from James McArthur, but Flamini's deflected strike from 20 yards out is tipped over the top of the crossbar by Caballero.
Palace are presented with a rare chance to trouble the home side after winning a corner over on the left flank, but it's poorly executed and fails to cause any problems for the hosts, who easily deal with the danger.
P. Zabaleta
David Silva
Meanwhile, Silva receives a rousing applause from the City fans as he's replaced by Pablo Zabaleta.
M. Flamini
L. Milivojević
Palace have made their second change of the afternoon, with Mathieu Flamini coming on to replace Milivojevic.
Toure is bundled over by Ward deep inside the Palace half of the pitch and wins a free-kick for the hosts. It's sent short before Toure eventually curls a cross towards Sterling, but it's underhit and fails to find the winger on the edge of the penalty area.
Zaha twists and turns as he weaves his way past Kompany and into the City penalty area, but he can't get the better of Nicolas Otamendi and loses out to a vital interception by the Argentine.
Poor defending by Schlupp deep down the left wing allows Sane to fire in a thumping volleyed cross. It finds Sterling in front of goal but there's slightly too much power behind the ball and the Englishman can't make decent contact with his head.
Gabriel Jesus
Assist
Jesus did really well to bully the Palace back line and win the ball in the air before teeing up De Bruyne, and the City fans certainly seem to appreciate the effort he's put in today. The Brazilian has battled incredibly hard so far.
K. De Bruyne
Goal
GOAL! It's 3-0! De Bruyne is left in acres of space just outside of the penalty area and is easily able to latch on to a bouncing ball before shooting, and his low strike flies past Hennessey before finding the back of the net.
Space opens up for Palace after another determined City attack comes to an end. Zaha and Benteke initially link up well before Puncheon tries to lift a quick cross over to the Belgian striker, but it's poorly hit and fails to find the big man inside the box.
Another important save by Hennessey! This time it's Sane who takes on the Welsh goalkeeper after Kelly gives away the ball in the middle of the pitch, but the German's low shot is brilliantly saved.
Lee Chung-Yong
A. Townsend
It's been a tough afternoon for Townsend, who makes way for Chung-Yong Lee in Palace's first substitution of the afternoon.
Fernandinho goes close! City move the ball around beautifully on the edge of the Palace box before Fernandinho eventually gets a shot away from the right-hand side, but his effort is well stopped by Hennessey at the near post.
De Bruyne hits the woodwork! The Belgian steps up and unleashes a wonderful strike that flies past the outstretched hand of Hennessey, but it clips the top of the crossbar instead of finding the roof of the net.
L. Milivojević
Yellow Card
Yellow card Luka Milivojević
Clichy pokes a clever pass up towards the Palace penalty area and into the path of De Bruyne, who is quickly clipped from behind by Milivojevic and wins his side a free-kick in a very dangerous position.
Jesus goes close to making it 3-0! Once again, Palace struggle to deal with a set-piece. Kompany gets a head on the second corner and nods it over to the far post, where Jesus rises high but can't hit the target with his close-range effort.
De Bruyne quickly pushes forward from the restart and wins City another corner. This time it finds the head of Toure in the heart of the penalty area, but Schlupp does well to put the Ivorian under pressure and deflect the ball behind for another corner.
K. De Bruyne
Assist
De Bruyne's first cross in from the corner may have been poor but his second was excellent. The Palace defence should have done a lot better though, as they didn't close down the Belgian quick enough before leaving Kompany all alone on the penalty spot.
V. Kompany
Goal
GOAL! Thumping strike by Kompany! Toure fires a long pass off a yellow shirt and out for a corner, which De Bruyne fires in low but fails to find a team-mate. It rolls back out to the Belgian, however, and he cuts a clever pass back to Kompany, who immediately fires a rocket of a strike past Hennessey and into the top right-hand corner of the net.
City immediately go on the front foot as they look to put early pressure on Palace's back line. Sterling and Silva link up well on the edge of the box before the Spaniard finally manages to get a shot away, but it bounces just wide of the near post.
We're underway once again!
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
So far, so good for City, who head into the half-time break with a one-goal lead thanks to an excellent start to the game. They continued to dominate the clash since then but didn't find quite as much joy after Palace reverted to a back four, and it's a move that has helped get the visitors back into the contest. They've enjoyed a few good moments on the break but, overall, have found it difficult to get Benteke involved.
HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE
De Bruyne's cross from the set-piece is eventually curled into the heart of the Palace penalty area, but it's sent too near to Hennessey and is easily cut out by the goalkeeper.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be just one minute of added time.
Fernandinho skips down the right flank as City try to carve out one last chance on goal before the half-time break, but the Brazilian is brought crashing to the ground by a poor foul from Zaha, who gives away a free-kick and receives a stern talking to from the referee.
De Bruyne sets up Sterling with a lovely pass down the right wing that evades two Palace players. The Englishman cuts inside and heads into the box before taking on Milivojevic, who drops into the penalty area to deal with the danger.
A poor pass from Van Aanholt can only find Toure, who then kick-starts a quick counter-attack. He sets up De Bruyne to charge down the right wing, but the Belgian is quickly closed down and fouled by Schlupp before he can get himself into a decent position.
What a miss by Van Aanholt! An audacious long-range effort from Milivojevic deflects off Kompany and over to Van Aanholt. The Dutchman is in acres of space on the left-hand side of the City box and decides to shoot instead of setting up Benteke, but it's the wrong choice and his thumping effort sails high over the top of the crossbar.
Excellent save by Caballero! Townsend does well to find a pocket of space for himself deep down the right wing before curling a lovely cross right on to the head of Benteke. The Belgian rises high above his marker and then sends a bullet header towards the bottom right-hand corner of the net, but Caballero keeps it out with a brilliant one-handed stop.
Another good chance for Sane! The German continues to cause all sorts of problems on the left flank as he skips into the penalty area and takes on Hennessey, but his low strike towards the near post is well stopped by the Welsh goalkeeper.
The cross into the City penalty area is a good one, but Toure rises high to deal with the danger. The hosts can't clear the danger completely, however, and Palace come back once again through Zaha, who cuts into the box before firing a cross straight into the chest of Kompany.
V. Kompany
Yellow Card
Palace have found it difficult to push forward, but Zaha has looked dangerous when they've been able to. Once again, the winger gets himself into a good position over on the left flank before taking on Kompany, who barges the number 11 to the ground and gives away a free-kick.
Two big opportunities for City! A Palace free-kick fails to result in a chance on goal for the visitors, and the home side counter quickly once again. Sane gets the better of Kelly over on the left wing before forcing Hennessey into making a smart save, and the goalkeeper can only parry the ball out to Sterling. The winger quickly shoots, but his follow-up effort is blocked as it flies towards the goal.
Chance for Jesus! Sterling and Silva link up wonderfully as the Spaniard cuts inside from the right flank. He skips past two players and then sets up Jesus inside the penalty area, but his snatched shot is scuffed into the hands of Hennessey.
Silva, who has easily been City's best player so far, twists and turns on the edge of the Palace box before managing to get a shot away. It's blocked by Kelly but loops over to Jesus, who gets the better of Hennessey before the linesman's flag is eventually raised.
Sterling sprints towards the Palace penalty area before poking a clever pass into the path of Sane. The German makes a good run towards the byline as he gets the better of Ward, but he can't stop the ball from rolling out for a goal-kick.
Silva and Zaha battle for the ball deep down the right wing before it's poked out for a City corner. De Bruyne steps up and whips in a curling cross that finds Kompany, but, under pressure, the defender can't make decent contact with the ball.
Great defending by Clichy! Space opens up and allows Palace to hit the home side on a quick counter-attack. Zaha and Puncheon link up well over on the left before the latter swings a lovely cross towards Christian Benteke, but just as it's about to reach the striker, Clichy gets a head on the ball to cut out the danger.
Vital interception by Schlupp! A beautiful pass picks out Sterling, who leaves Ward for dead over on the left wing. He cuts into the penalty area and then tries to tee up Jesus with a deft pass, but it's cut out by Schlupp before it can find the Brazilian in front of goal.
Palace are able to push forward on a rare foray into the City half of the pitch, but a misplaced pass down the left flank from Puncheon fails to pick out Zaha and is easily dealt with by Vincent Kompany, who then pokes the ball back to Willy Caballero.
Despite now looking slightly more solid with a back four, Palace are continuing to struggle against a determined City side. The hosts are managing to find plenty of joy out wide, and it's all thanks to Gael Clichy and Fernandinho operating as inverted full-backs, which is opening up space for Sane and Sterling.
Big chance for Jesus! Fernandinho makes a wonderful run into the box and links up brilliantly with Leroy Sane. The Brazilian skips past Jeffrey Schlupp with ease and then tries to set up Jesus, but Kelly is there to cut out the danger at the near post.
Jesus makes a clever run towards the Palace penalty area as he tries to latch on to a lofted pass forward, but his dart through the visitors' back line is slightly mistimed and the linesman's flag is raised as soon as he reaches the ball.
In a surprising move, Palace seemed to start the game with a back five instead of the usual four. That's been quickly abandoned, however, as Allardyce has pushed Andros Townsend up the right wing and replaced him with Joel Ward.
Palace are really struggled to keep hold of the ball on the rare occasions that they're able to gain possession. Once again, City pile plenty of bodies forward before Fernandinho manages to get a shot away from 25 yards out, but, despite being hit with plenty of venom, it flies straight into the hands of Wayne Hennessey.
Chance for Kevin De Bruyne! Silva continues causing plenty of problems for the Palace back line deep inside the visitors' box before forcing Luka Milivojevic into thumping the ball out for a corner. The set-piece initially fails to result in a chance on goal before the ball falls to De Bruyne, who then unleashes a thumping volley from the edge of the penalty area that flies a few yards over the top of the crossbar.
Almost a chance for Wilfried Zaha! A poor pass is cut out by Patrick van Aanholt and allows the Dutchman to burst down the left wing. He links up well with Jason Puncheon before setting up Zaha, who flies into the penalty area but can't get the better of Yaya Toure.
M. Kelly
Yellow Card
Palace immediately break forward from the restart, but they're unable to carve out a chance on goal and allow City to counter quickly. Gabriel Jesus darts past the halfway line and into the visitors' half of the pitch before taking on Kelly, who clumsily challenges the Brazilian and earns himself the first yellow card of the game.
David Silva
Goal
GOAL! What a start by City! A delightful chipped cross from David Silva finds Raheem Sterling, who then pokes a pass across the face of goal from the far post. It's poorly headed away by Martin Kelly and straight to Silva, who then thumps a great strike into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
We're off! City get us underway, attacking from left to right.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Meanwhile, Palace boss Sam Allardyce has made just one alteration to the team that featured in their last outing, with Damien Delaney making way for Jeffrey Schlupp, meaning that Patrick van Aanholt will operate as a centre-back alongside Martin Kelly.
Pep Guardiola has decided to make four changes to the Manchester City side that started the 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough last weekend, with Yaya Toure, Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Leroy Sane coming into the starting line-up to replace Aleksandar Kolarov, Aleix Garcia, Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero, respectively.
Crystal Palace substitutes: Speroni, Delaney, Flamini, Lee, Campbell, Sako, Remy.
Crystal Palace XI (4-3-3): Hennessey; Ward, Kelly, Van Aanholt, Schlupp; McArthur, Milivojevic, Puncheon; Zaha, Benteke, Townsend.
Manchester City substitutes: Gunn, Sagna, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Fernando, Navas, Iheanacho.
Manchester City XI (4-1-4-1): Caballero; Fernandinho, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy; Toure; Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva, Sane; Jesus.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
After impressing in recent weeks with excellent victories against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to help drag them away from the dreaded relegation zone, it’s been a disappointing two-game period for Palace. A narrow loss against Tottenham Hotspur was, in some ways, expected, but last Saturday’s defeat at home to Burnley can only be described as a poor one. As a result, they’ll be aiming to bounce back with a strong performance today.
With just two points separate themselves and the magic 40-point mark, Palace can surely smell safety. A six-point lead over 18th-place Swansea City, who are in action against Everton later today, means that they aren’t quite safe yet, but a victory this afternoon would all but confirm their place in the Premier League for another season, no matter what the Swans manage to achieve against the Toffees.
City head into this afternoon’s game without Sergio Aguero, however, after the Argentine picked up an injury against Middlesbrough last weekend. With six goals in seven games, the striker’s absence could prove to be a big blow for Pep Guardiola’s men, who will also have to try and bring an end to a two-game winless run without goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The battle for third place looks set to go right to the wire, and a determined City side head into today's clash in search of a win that will keep them hot on the heels of Liverpool. With a game in hand over the Reds, a victory here today and another at home to Leicester City next weekend will set them up perfectly for winnable clashes against West Bromwich Albion and Watford in their final two outings of the season.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League game between Manchester City and Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium.
