Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Leicester are next in Premier League action on Tuesday against Chelsea on home soil. Southampton play next in their FA Cup third-round clash on Wednesday at home against Shrewsbury Town.
Leicester City move up to second in the Premier League courtesy of a 2-0 win over Southampton this evening. James Maddison put the Foxes ahead with a cracking finish from a tight angle in the first half before Harvey Barnes sealed the three points with a stoppage-time strike. The Saints did have good opportunities and Stuart Armstrong came closest, rattling the bar in the second half. However, Leicester were the more clinical team and took their chances to claim the victory at the King Power Stadium.

J. Vardy
90' + 1' A frustrating night comes to an end for Vardy as he is replaced by Iheanacho.
90' There will be five minutes of added time.
90' Perez breathes a sigh of relief to see the offside flag raised as he blazes over from close range. However, VAR would have acted in Leicester's favour there had he scored as the Spaniard was in line with the last defender when he latched on to Albrighton's pass. A missed opportunity for the hosts.
89' OVER! Vardy chases a long ball over the top and tries to pick out Barnes in the middle. Bednarek and Bertrand clear, but only as far as Albrighton. The winger tees up Ndidi to strike at goal, only for the midfielder to scoop his effort over the top.
Y. Valery
I. Diallo
87' Diallo is withdrawn by Hasenhuttl for the closing stages of the game as Valery enters the action.
85' MCCARTHY DENIES VARDY! The striker is destined not to score tonight. Justin releases the forward in the box and he turns past the challenge of Stephens on the slide. Vardy tries to slot a left-footed strike past McCarthy, but the keeper sticks out a hand and diverts his effort wide of the left post.

78' WIDE! Bertrand and Armstrong combine in the final third to tee up Ward-Prowse for a running strike. He has to meet the offload from Armstrong first time on the run under pressure, but he slices his right-footed strike wide of the right post.
Ayoze Pérez
J. Maddison
77' Perez replaces the goalscorer Maddison for the final 13 minutes of the contest.
75' OFF THE LINE! Bednarek denies Barnes with a goalline clearance. The winger latches on to Albrighton's cross at the back post, but scuffs his left-footed strike across goal. The defender is able to get back and nod it away from danger.
73' OFF THE BAR! Armstrong carves out space for a strike from 25 yards and rifles his effort towards goal. His attempt beats the hand of Schmeichel, but rattles the bar. Ings is poised to latch to the rebound, but is bundled over by Evans. The referee appears to point to the spot, but gets a shout from his assistant that the forward was offside when Armstrong fired at goal.

72' Long replaces Adams in the final third.
72' Vardy again finds room in the Saints' backline. On this occasion he cuts a cross back to Maddison, but Bertrand is there to cut out the danger.

47' Leicester have won each of their last nine PL games when they've scored the first goal, including all eight games this season prior to today.
46' SAVE AND WIDE! The Saints break with pace on the counter as Armstrong feeds Smallbone on the edge of the box. He tries to bend a strike past Schmeichel, but the Dane produces a solid stop. Walcott tries to pounce on the rebound, but it strikes him before he can react and the ball trickles behind for a goal-kick.
46' We're back underway at the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers' side have not been at their best this evening. However, Maddison's effort was the touch of class needed to forge ahead. Ralph Hasenhuttl should have confidence that his side can break back into the game, but they will need to improve their finishing to force an equaliser in the second half
James Maddison's strike has handed Leicester City a half-time lead over Southampton in their Premier League. Maddison broke the deadlock with a fine effort from a tight angle, notching his second goal in as many games. The Saints will feel aggrieved to behind as Che Adams and Ryan Bertrand forced Kasper Schmeichel into excellent stops. However, the Foxes have the advantage and are on course for a massive win.

He drills a strike high towards the near post, blasting his attempt past McCarthy into the top-right corner. A super strike.
37' MISS! Castagne sends Albrighton down the right flank and he angles his cross towards Vardy in the middle. The striker has space and time in the box, but he misses his kick under no presssure.
35' Everyone remembers the 9-0 thrashing that Leicester handed Southampton last season at St Mary's Stadium last season. The Saints seem to have an extra spring in their step to eradicate memories of that defeat once and for all.
32' The tempo of the game has been brisk to say the least. There has not been an element of control from either side as the ball keeps breaking from end-to-end.
30' The Saints are almost in behind the Leicester backline again. Ward-Prowse lifts a simple ball over the top between Evans and Fofana. Adams is inches away from gaining possession, only to be denied by the onrushing Schmeichel, who clears on the slide.
29' OVER! Maddison turns out of tight quarters and raids towards the edge of the box. He lines up a strike on his right foot that he launches well over the bar.
28' Evans has to act with acrobatic kick at the back to prevent Walcott from latching onto Adams' ball over the top. The Northern Ireland international had to make that intervention.

23' SAVE! Smallbone and Walcott combine to tee up Adams in the right inside channel. The forward hammers a strike on his right foot towards the near post that Schmeichel has to palm behind.

10' Diallo fouls Fofana on a press forward upfield, giving away a free-kick to the Foxes in a useful position.
7' The Saints keep the pressure on the home side. Adams pursues a long ball over the top, forcing Fofana to clear his lines. Walcott then has a probe on the right flank and wins a corner off the legs of Justin.
5' Southampton work the ball well in the final third as Ward-Prowse finds Smallbone in space on the right flank. The winger has space and time, but fails to beat the first defender with his delivery.
3' Walker-Peters has a surge at the Leicester defence, driving all the way to the edge of the box. However, he fails to pick out a team-mate with his cutback.
3' Armstrong raids down the right flank and lifts a cross into the box, but it flies over the head of Adams and Walcott in the middle and out for a throw-in.
1' We're underway at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester have lost their last two home Premier League matches against Southampton, one more than they did in their first 12 home games against Saints in the competition (W7 D4).
Southampton are without Danny Ings after he tested positive for Covid-19. There are three changes to the team that beat Liverpool in their last outing, including Ings. McCarthy returns between the posts to oust Forster. Moussa Djenepo is missing with a hamstring problem, allowing Smallbone to start on the left flank. Adams leads the line alongside Walcott in place of Ings.
Leicester have made two changes to their side from their win over Stoke last time out. Maddison and Vardy return to the starting line-up in place of Dennis Praet, who misses out this evening, and Perez, who drops to the bench. Rodgers keeps faith with Evans alongside Fofana despite the presence of Soyuncu on the bench. Pereira also remains on the bench for now, allowing Justin to retain his place.

Southampton return to action for the first time since beating Liverpool on January 4 after their FA Cup against Shrewsbury was postponed. Ralph Hasenhuttl's men are unbeaten in their last three without conceding a goal. They were stout against the champions to claim an impressive 1-0 win on home soil. The Saints will once again aim to be a tough nut to crack.
Leicester City are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions heading into their clash against the Saints. Brendan Rodgers' men can pull within a point of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League with a win tonight. Momentum is on their side having beaten Newcastle United in their last league outing before hammering Stoke last time out in the FA Cup. The Foxes will be eyeing a similar performance.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Leicester City and Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
