CFL 2018: Gallant East Bengal outclass Aryan 3-0
East Bengal overtook Mohun Bagan to reach the top of Calcutta Football League table after win over Aryan...

East Bengal thrashed Aryan 3-0 in their fourth match of Calcutta Football League (CFL) Premier Division ‘A’ 2018 on Saturday at the East Bengal ground.

Kassim Aidara (27’), Laldanmawia Ralte (49’) and Mahmoud Al Amna (69’) were on target to guide East Bengal to yet another comfortable win.

Subhash Bhowmick fielded an unchanged XI which defeated Pathachakra 3-0 earlier this week. The team lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Joby Justin as the lone striker.

East Bengal should have taken the lead in the first 15 minutes itself had they not missed easy opportunities. Joby Justin wasted the easiest chance of the day when he failed to score from a one on one situation. The Keralite took advantage of Bello Rasaq’s sloppy defending and had just the Aryan goalkeeper in front of him but his shot hit the left post and went out.

Kinshuk Debnath and Brandon Vanlalremdika also came close to score but their efforts were brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Souvik Santra.

The Red and Golds finally broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Kassim Aidara headed the ball in from Mahmoud Al Amna’s cross. Laldanmawia Ralte initially attempted a header from Amna’s corner which hit the crossbar and came back. An unmarked Aidara headed the ball in from rebound.

Aryan also came very close to score the equaliser on quite a few occasions but East Bengal defenders and goalkeeper Rakshit Dagar was cautious.

East Bengal doubled the lead within four minutes of the second half when Laldanmawia Ralte scored from Brandon’s cross. Brandon curled a cross from the left flank which Ralte received inside the box. He then calmly slotted the ball home.

Amna scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute with a brilliant effort. Kamalpreet Singh received a through ball down the right flank from Ralte and squared it inside the box. Amna took a deft touch in front of the goal and found the back of the net.

Another comprehensive performance from the Bastob-Roy coached side saw them climb to the top of the table on goal difference. They now have 10 points from four matches same as rivals Mohun Bagan.
