Lalram Chullova's goal from penalty sealed crucial three points for East Bengal just a week before the Kolkata derby.....

East Bengal edged past NBP Rainbow AC 1-0 in their sixth match to go to the top of the 2018 Calcutta Football League (CFL) Premier Division ‘A’.

Technical Director Subhash Bhowmick made just one change in the starting XI which defeated Tollygunge Agragami in the previous match.

Surabuddin Mallick started on the right flank replacing Laldanmawia Ralte who was kept of the squad due to a knock. The team lined up in a familiar 4-1-4-1 formation.

The playing surface was heavy right from the beginning as it was raining for almost an hour before the kick-off. The wet pitch did not allow the players to play a free-flowing game.

Joby Justin came close to break the deadlock in the 20th minute but failed to convert an easy header. Kamalpreet Singh sent a brilliant curling cross and Justin was hardly 6 yards away from the goal. But he failed to head the ball into the net.

In the 25th minute, Surabuddin Mallick and played a one-two with Mahmoud Al Amna and entered the penalty box from the right side. But before Mallick could take a shot he was brought down and a penalty was awarded. Lalram Chullova scored the goal from the penalty spot.

The visitors came close to score an equaliser in the 52nd minute as Sujay Dutta unleashed a shot at goal from a very close range but thanks to East Bengal goalkeeper Rakshit Dagar’s reflexes the ball was kept out. Joel Sunday tried to tap in from the rebound but the linesman signalled offside.

The Red and Golds lacked the flair and quality on the pitch today which was predominantly due to the poor pitch condition. They were unable to exhibit their natural free-flowing game today.
