Thanks for joining us for this live coverage of Aston Villa's 2-1 away win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Gerrard's second win in his first two games as manager means that Villa move up to 11th. They host Manchester City next as they look to continue rising up the table. For the Eagles meanwhile, their unbeaten run is over but they remain 10th in the table. They travel to Leeds next time out.
It's full-time, and it'll be Aston Villa who take the three points back to the Midlands. They took the lead on 15 minutes after Targett was found by a Young corner. The full-back took a touch before smashing home to give his side an early advantage. They probably should've been further in front before the break as McGinn and Mings had decent chances, and they did come under some early pressure in the second half from their opponents. They held firm though and doubled their advantage in the 86th minute after McGinn finished superbly past Guaita after he was found by El Ghazi on the edge of the box. Guehi did pull a goal back in the 95th minute but the Villans held on for a big win.
C. Kouyaté
Crystal Palace
90' + 5' It was Kouyate's cross that found Guehi in the box to prod it into the back of the net.
M. Guéhi
Crystal Palace
90' + 5' Palace have a goal back! A cross in from the right finds Guehi in the box who stabs home past Martinez to make it 2-1. Can they pull off a dramatic late comeback?
90' + 3' The Villa defence are able to comfortably deal with a couple of crosses into their box.
90' + 1' Watkins has a chance to kill the game off but takes too long to shoot and the Palace defence are able to tackle him.
89' Ayew sends an effort from 30 yards out well over. He had options to his left but opted to shoot, and that ultimately ended up being a poor decision.
J. Ayew
M. Olise
Crystal Palace
87' Vieira sends Ayew on for Olise.
A. El Ghazi
Aston Villa
86' El Ghazi caused trouble with the run and found McGinn in enough space for the Scot to lash home.
J. McGinn
Aston Villa
86' It's 2-0 to the visitors!!! It's McGinn who doubles his side's advantage with a curled effort after he was found in the box by El Ghazi. The Scottish midfielder hits it first time, giving Guaita no chance as it flies into the top corner.
E. Buendía
A. Young
Aston Villa
85' Young has come off for Buendia.
83' Martinez is down receiving treatment after making that save but looks okay to continue.
81' Edouard shoots from the edge of the area but Martinez gets down well to gather it. The effort didn't really have the power to trouble the Argentinian keeper.
79' Benteke tries an acrobatic bicycle kick as Tomkins nods a cross back across to him, however Martinez is equal to it and catches it easily.
A. El Ghazi
L. Bailey
Aston Villa
77' Gerrard puts on El Ghazi for Bailey.
76' Olise appears to clip Young's heel as the former Manchester United man dribbles on the left wing, but the referee waves play on.
Douglas Luiz
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
74' After a VAR check, the referee rescinds the red card and instead gives Luiz a yellow.
73' Luiz is off! Having only come on as a substitute five minutes ago, the midfielder receives his marching orders for a foul on Kouyate in midfield.
O. Édouard
W. Zaha
Crystal Palace
72' Zaha is replaced by Edouard.
71' Martinez flaps at a corner but it just doesn't come down for a Palace player and the visitors are able to hack clear.
69' Villa are just having a decent spell of possession here as they look to regain control of the match.
Douglas Luiz
J. Ramsey
Aston Villa
67' Ramsey makes way for Douglas Luiz for the visitors.
64' Every single one of Benteke's last eight league goals have either put Palace ahead or equalised for them. Can he find another here to level the scoreline?
62' The hosts are very much on top now as they search for an equaliser.
E. Eze
L. Milivojević
Crystal Palace
60' In an attacking change, Eze is on for Milivojevic.
59' Cash tries to clear a cross but it hits Konsa. Luckily for the pair, it goes harmlessly wide.
57' So close! Young sends the free-kick over the wall but can't get it to drop enough to dip below the bar and it lands on top of the net.
L. Milivojević
Yellow Card
Crystal Palace
56' Watkins drives towards the edge of the Palace box before he is brought down by Milivojevic. The visitors think that the midfielder should see red as the striker beared down on goal, however the referee only gives him a yellow.
M. Nakamba
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
54' Nakamba is booked for a heavy foul on Zaha in midfield.
52' The visitors have lost their last three away league games.
50' Zaha shows some quick feet on the wing but can only find Martinez with his lofted cross.
48' Palace have started the second half with a bit more attacking urgency than they had in the first period.
46' Vieira's men kick us off for the second half.
It's another positive half for new Villa manager Gerrard, who will be pleased with what he's seen so far. Can his side hold on for another big three points?
And so we go to the break with the scoreline 1-0 to the visitors. It's a deserved lead too as they have had the majority of the chances. It was a relatively even start to the game, but the pattern of play changed when Villa took the lead in the 15th minute. A corner from Young made it all the way to the back post, where Targett took a touch before smashing past Guaita. After the goal, Gerrard's men dominated and can probably count themselves unlucky not to be going into the break further ahead after McGinn and Mings both had decent chances.
45' + 2' There's a mix-up in the Palace defence as Tomkins and Guaita both leave a deflected cross to each other. Luckily for them, Young doesn't anticipate the error and it goes out for a corner.
45' There will be three minutes of additional time at the end of this first half.
J. Ward
Yellow Card
Crystal Palace
44' Ward sees yellow for going through the back of Young as the ball was played into the winger.
42' Benteke dribbles into the box but Mings does really well to outmuscle him and clear the danger out for a throw-in.
40' The visitors have looked the more likely to score the second goal of this match, and will want to press home that advantage before the break.
38' The only Villa manager to win his first two Premier League games in charge was John Gregory in 1998. Can Gerrard become the second here?
36' Kouyate somehow escapes a booking after clattering into McGinn. The resulting free-kick finds Mings but he gets his effort badly wrong and Palace clear. He really should've done better there.
34' Young claims for a penalty for handball off Tomkins as he shoots, but nothing is given. It will be a corner for Gerrard's men though, and a chance to send the centre-halves up.
32' Konsa gets up well to win a header from a free-kick but can't get high enough to send his header downwards and it ends up going well over.
31' The Eagles are unbeaten in the league at home so far this season. Will that run end today?
M. Cash
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
29' Cash is booked for his part in the collision with Zaha.
W. Zaha
Yellow Card
Crystal Palace
29' Zaha is booked for pushing over Cash as the two clash after a tough challenge. He perhaps is lucky not to see red for that reaction.
27' McGinn does really well to turn Guehi in the box before curling one at goal. He just can't get quite enough bend on it though and it goes wide.
25' Targett drives forward and plays a clever ball into Bailey however the ball just doesn't come down for him and he can only play it back to Young, who sends a tame effort straight at Guaita.
24' Mitchell finds Benteke in the box with a cross, but the Belgian striker's header flies well over Martinez's goal.
23' The VAR check is complete, and no penalty is awarded.
22' Watkins is brought down in the box and claims for a penalty, however the referee waves play on. There will be a VAR check though. Could the visitors have a penalty?
21' Milivojevic sends a free-kick over but the delivery is incredibly poor and goes out for a goal-kick.
19' This is more of the same for the visitors, who have won three of their last five league games against Palace.
17' That's an early blow for the hosts. Can they find a quick response?
A. Young
Aston Villa
15' The corner from Young went over the heads of everybody but Targett, who smashed it home.
M. Targett
Aston Villa
15' It's 1-0 to the visitors! A corner from Young makes it all the way to the back post, where Targett is waiting. The full-back takes a touch before lashing home with his left foot past Guaita on the half-volley.
13' The hosts have possession in a dangerous area but a stray pass by Gallagher kills the momentum of the attack.
11' First big chance for the hosts! Olise finds Zaha in the box, and the winger turns and shoots with his left foot. He just drags it a little though, and it goes wide of Martinez's goal.
9' The hosts have won five of their last six home league games against their opponents here, and all of the last three.
7' Zaha wins a corner from the first real attack by the hosts. However the Villa defence do enough to clear the initial ball in, and then a couple of other crosses as well.
5' After a long delay, Bailey sends the free-kick straight into the wall. That was a really poor effort.
3' Gallagher brings down Ramsey for a free-kick in a dangerous position, around 25 yards out.
1' The visitors kick us off and we are underway.
The two teams make their way out onto the field of play.
Visiting boss Steven Gerrard also goes with two alterations as Bailey and Young start while Buendia and Ings are on the bench.
Home manager Patrick Vieira makes two changes from the 3-3 draw with Burnley last time out as Tomkins and Olise come in as Ayew drops to the bench, while Joachim Andersen misses out altogether.
