Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Chelsea are next in action during the week in their Champions League clash against Lille on the road, while Brighton play Tottenham next Saturday at the Amex Stadium.
Chelsea bounce back from their defeat to Liverpool last time out in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. Jorginho handed his side the lead from the penalty spot after Mason Mount was brought down in the box by Adam Webster. The Blues did have a scare when Dan Burn hit the bar with a close-range header. However, Willian secured the three points with 14 minutes remaining with a deflected strike. Frank Lampard's men earned their first clean sheet of the campaign in the process of their triumph this afternoon, moving them up into sixth place in the table. Brighton are without a win since the opening day of the campaign and are trending in the wrong direction.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 2-0 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
90' + 2' Burn goes for a strike from the edge of the box on the half-volley, but Azpilicueta holds firm to make the block. Chelsea are edging closer to the clean sheet.
90' + 1' Gross lifts the ball into the box and Webster rises to head at goal, only to place his effort over the bar.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
90' Montoya wins a corner off the legs of Hudson-Odoi. If Brighton are to do the unlikely, they have to score now.
88' Kepa takes his time over a goal-kick. He will be desperately eyeing up his first clean sheet in the Premier League this season.
86' Willian has scored his first goal in 17 Premier League appearances for Chelsea since he last found the net against Newcastle in January; he had attempted 32 shots without scoring between these goals in the league.
85' Batshuayi collects in the final third and looks for space for a strike. He cuts back on to his left foot, but his effort is deflected into the hands of Ryan by Bong.
M. Batshuayi
T. Abraham
Chelsea
84' Abraham makes way for Batshuayi in the final third.
82' Gross tracks back to save his team from conceding a third. Abraham rolls the ball towards the back post and the run of Hudson-Odoi, but the German slides to steer it behind.
G. Murray
N. Maupay
Brighton & Hove Albion
79' Murray replaces Maupay for the visitors.
78' SAVE! Jorginho threads a pass through for Abraham and he shrugs off the challenge of Dunk, but cannot get the ball cleanly out of his feet. He still digs out a strike, but Ryan is able to palm it wide of the post.
C. Hudson-Odoi
Assist
Chelsea
76' Hudson-Odoi releases Willian down the right and the Brazilian does the rest with the aid of a deflection.
Willian
Goal
Chelsea
76' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! WILLIAN NOTCHES A MUCH NEEDED SECOND!!! 2-0!!! Chelsea have their second goal to take the contest away from Brighton. Willian runs at Burn in the right inside channel and finds enough space to fire at goal. His effort takes a deflection off the leg of the defender to wrong foot Ryan and find the net.
75' Chelsea do not have a lot of experience in their backline outside of Azpilicueta. Tomori and Christensen have to hold firm amid the pressure from the Seagulls.
73' OFF THE BAR! Burn sees his effort clip the top of the crossbar and bounce over. Gross lifts the resulting cross into the box and Burn challenges for it in the middle. He glances his effort down into the ground. The ball bounces up towards goal, but it clips off the bar and goes over. So close to a leveller for the visitors.
72' WIDE! Alzate opens up the Chelsea defence with a weaving run before taking on a strike at goal. It takes a deflection and trickles towards the left bottom corner, but it travels inches wide of the post.
71' Chelsea need to re-affirm their grip on the game and get the second goal to kill off the contest. Brighton are still in with a good shout of snatching a point here.
69' Mount and Hudson-Odoi combine on the edge of the box, but the latter puts just too much pace on his pass for Willian's run in the right inside channel.
M. Kovačić
R. Barkley
Chelsea
68' Another change for the Blues as Kovacic comes on for Barkley.
66' Abraham collects a lay-off from Mount and tries to turn, but Dunk makes a good challenge to deny the forward.
A. Connolly
A. Mooy
Brighton & Hove Albion
65' Mooy is replaced by Connolly for the visitors.
C. Hudson-Odoi
Pedro
Chelsea
63' Hudson-Odoi makes his first Premier League appearance of the season as he replaces Pedro.
61' CHANCE! Brighton play themselves into trouble at the back once more. A backpass from Stephens is cut out by Abraham on the stretch and he pokes an effort towards goal, but Ryan remains big and makes the block with his body to deny the forward.
60' OVER! Gross picks out Bong on the left flank and then carries on his run into the box. The German gets the better of Tomori in the middle, but can only glance his header over the bar.
59' Jorginho's penalty is the 100th to be scored at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League (78 for Chelsea, 22 against), making it the first ground to reach this milestone in the competition.
57' Alonso tries to get the better of Montoya down the left inside channel, but the defender holds off the Chelsea left-back's surge and wins possession.
56' Mooy digs out a cross to the back post for Webster to challenge with Alonso, but the Brighton man can only head his effort behind for a goal-kick.
55' Jorginho has scored as many goals in nine appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season (2) as he did in 54 games in 2018-19; three of his four goals for the Blues have been penalties.
54' Barkley makes a good run at the Brighton defence, but he lacks support from his team-mates and gets crowded out on the edge of the box.
53' Bong raids forward from the back and he tries to turn his way past Pedro tracking back, but the Spaniard does enough to win back possession.
51' SAVE! Chelsea open up the visitors down the right flank and Pedro has space and time to fire at goal, but he drills his effort straight at Ryan once again.
Jorginho
Penalty Goal
Chelsea
50' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! JORGINHO CONVERTS!!! 1-0!!!! Chelsea take the lead as the midfielder holds his nerve from 12 yards. He goes for the staggered run-up and then places his effort into the left bottom corner. Ryan is fooled and is rooted to the spot.
49' PENALTY TO CHELSEA! Mount puts the pressure on Webster and forces the mistake from the defender with a short backpass. He sticks out a leg to bring down the midfielder, leaving the referee to point to the penalty spot.
A. Webster
Yellow Card
Brighton & Hove Albion
49' Webster goes into the book for bringing down Mount.
48' Azpilicueta breaks down the right and gets the better of Bong, but his low cross evades Mount. Willian collects and takes on the strike, only to fire his effort straight at Ryan.
G. Bong
Y. Bissouma
Brighton & Hove Albion
46' Bissouma makes way for Bong at the break, which will see Brighton move to five at the back.
46' We're back underway at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have been suspect at the back this season due to the youthful nature of their defensive pairings, but Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen have been fine thus far. Christensen and Alonso have been booked, which could be worth monitoring in the second half. It's a big 45 minutes for Lampard and his team, who will not want to drop further points at the Bridge.
It's all square at Stamford Bridge at the break between Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion. The Blues should be ahead comfortably as Tammy Abraham struck the post, while Marcos Alonso missed a sitter from close range. The Blues' have not had a clinical edge in the final third this afternoon. Frank Lampard will be satisfied with their approach play, but they need to improve their finishing to take the three points. Brighton have dogged enough, although they have been cut open at times. Graham Potter's side can afford to be more adventurous in the second half to at least put the Blues under pressure.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-0 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
45' + 1' Barkley rolls the ball to Pedro on the edge of the box and he turns to shoot on his left foot, but it's straight at Ryan.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
45' Jorginho feeds Mount on the edge of the box and his first touch is excellent, but his second allows the ball to run away from him and towards Ryan.
44' The locals are not happy with a couple of challenges in the box from Brighton as they defend a set-piece from Willian, but it's all legal as far as the referee is concerned.
43' Chelsea are showing more life in the final third as we approach the break, but Lampard will be worried about their finishing in front of goal, bearing in mind they scored seven during the week.
41' WHAT A MISS! Alonso misses an absolute sitter at the back post. Azpilicueta puts the ball on the money with a precise cross. The left-back arrives late and has the entire goal to aim at, but on the slide he slams his attempt well wide of the target.
39' SAVE! Jorginho releases Pedro over the top with a precise throughball. The Spaniard takes it in stride and fires towards goal, but he blasts his effort straight at Ryan, who makes the stop.
38' Lampard will not be pleased with the last 15 minutes or so from his team. They've lost control of possession, while they've not been clinical enough in the final third.
36' SAVE! Ryan denies Barkley at the back post with a solid stop. Alonso clips a cross into the middle for the run of the midfielder. He does not get the best connection with his effort, but it still loops towards the bottom corner. Ryan gets across to palm it past the post.
S. Alzate
Yellow Card
Brighton & Hove Albion
33' Alzate goes into the book for simulation, hurtling himself to the ground after Azpilicueta stuck out a leg.
33' Kepa has to be on the mark for the Blues, rushing off his line to deny Maupay as the forward tries to latch on to a ball over the top from Gross.
32' Gross lifts the ball into the box from the resulting free-kick, but the Blues are able to clear their lines with relative ease.
Marcos Alonso
Yellow Card
Chelsea
31' Alonso leaps in the air to battle with Montoya and catches the Brighton man in the back of tjhe head with his elbow. There was no malicious intent and it's a booking only for the Spaniard.
N. Maupay
Yellow Card
Brighton & Hove Albion
28' Maupay tries to block Kepa's throw out from the back and succeeds only in colliding with the keeper. He goes into the book for the challenge.
27' Jorginho lifts a ball over the top of the Brighton defence, but Dunk reads it and heads back to Ryan.
25' Alzate finds space down the left flank and he tries to whip a cross into the box with pace, only to send his delivery behind for a goal-kick.
A. Christensen
Yellow Card
Chelsea
23' Christensen goes into the book for the home side for a foul on Maupay on the left flank.
21' BLOCK! Webster is in the right place at the right time to charge down Willian's strike from the edge of the box. The defender puts his body on the line to make the block.
20' Chelsea apply pressure on the edge of the box as Mount and Azpilicueta see shots blocked by a wall of Brighton defenders. The visitors are defending resolutely at the back.
19' Abraham either set up (2) or attempted (2) four of Chelsea's first six shots.
17' Brighton have a rare foray foward into the Chelsea half, but both Gross and Mooy take their time in possession and allow the Blues to get men back to defend. The attack results in Mooy losing out to Pedro tracking back.
16' Alonso has acres of room on the left flank to deliver a cross into the box, but he powers his delivery out for a throw-in on the opposite wing.
14' OFF THE POST! The Blues are denied by the woodwork as Abraham glances his header at goal. The forward rises highest from Mount's free-kick into the box, getting a run on his marker in the middle. However, his header comes back off the post before the visitors hack away the loose ball in the box.
13' Abraham runs against Dunk on the left flank and he draws the foul from the Brighton skipper.
13' Ryan does well under pressure from Willian after passing the ball out from the back. Webster sends it back to the keeper, who takes a touch before picking out Montoya.
12' OVER! Willian collects in space on the left flank and he cuts inside to shoot on his right foot from the edge of the box, only to hammer his attempt into the stand behind goal.
9' Burn makes an important interception in the middle of the backline for the Seagulls, cutting out Azpilicueta's low cross from the right flank.
8' Chelsea are settling into a rhythm in their passing and are looking dangerous in possession.
6' OVER! Mount charges with the ball towards the edge of the box and he offloads towards Abraham. It loops up towards the forward, who takes one touch to control before firing under pressure towards goal. However, Abraham can only blast his effort over.
6' Brighton are keen to knock the ball around at the back, but it's inviting pressure from the home side.
4' WIDE! The resulting corner deflects out to Jorginho on the edge of the box. He lines up an effort on the half-volley, but the midfielder skews his attempt wide of the target.
3' PENALTY SHOUT & SAVE! Mount collects in the final third and charges towards the box. He goes down near Dunk, but the referee is not interested. Abraham gathers the loose ball in the left inside channel and goes for a strike from a tight angle, but Ryan blocks it behind with his body.
2' Willian and Abraham combine on the edge of the box, only for the Brazilian to see his strike blocked by the legs of Burn.
1' Brighton get the action underway at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have won all four of their Premier League games against Brighton, scoring 11 goals and conceding just once.
Brighton made 11 changes to their side during the week for the EFL Cup, but Potter reverts back to the team that drew against Newcastle. Alzate was dangerous against the Magpies on his Premier League debut and he continues in his role on the left flank. Maupay continues to lead the line, while Burn and Webster partner Dunk in the back three, with Shane Duffy sidelined by a calf injury.
Lampard made several changes to his side for the EFL Cup clash against Grimsby. Alonso, Barkley and Pedro keep their places in the team from the win. N'Golo Kante misses out with a hamstring injury, while Christensen and Tomori continue in the middle of the defence. Abraham is restored to the frontline, in front of Pedro, Mount and Willian.
BRIGHTON SUBS: Gaetan Bong, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Glenn Murray, Ezequiel Schelotto, David Button, Tudor Baluta, Aaron Connolly.
BRIGHTON (3-4-3): Mat Ryan; Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk, Dan Burn; Martin Montoya, Yves Bissouma, Dale Stephens, Steven Alzate; Pascal Gross, Aaron Mooy, Neal Maupay.
CHELSEA SUBS: Willy Caballero, Mateo Kovacic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Michy Batshuayi, Reece James, Marc Guehi.
CHELSEA (4-2-3-1): Kepa Arrizabalga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso; Jorginho, Ross Barkley; Wilian, Pedro, Mason Mount; Tammy Abraham.
Brighton had chances to beat Newcastle in their last outing in the Premier League at St James' Park. However, they were unable to capitalise on their opportunities. It has been the story of their season to date under Graham Potter. The Seagulls crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Aston Villa, suffering a 3-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium. Brighton are winless in five matches in the league, although a trip to Stamford Bridge is not as daunting as it has been in the past.
Chelsea responded to back-to-back defeats with an emphatic 7-1 win over Grimsby in the EFL Cup during the week to seal their place in the fourth round of the competition. The Blues suffered losses to Valencia in the Champions League then Liverpool in the Premier League so a victory was needed to stem the tide. Frank Lampard's men have been solid, but are in need of a consistent run in the league to move up the table.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.
