Villa are next in action against Leicester City in a huge match on the road next week. City are in Champions League action on Tuesday away to Sevilla.
Aston Villa hold Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park in their Premier League clash with a battling performance. Erling Haaland put the champions ahead with his 10th goal of the season, converting at the back post from a sublime Kevin De Bruyne cross. However, Haaland, De Bruyne and their team-mates missed a host of chances to kill off the contest. Villa punished the visitors as Jacob Ramsey found Leon Bailey to score his first Premier League goal in a year to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: ASTON VILLA 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY
90' + 2' Watkins makes a lung-bursting run down the left flank and powers a low ball across the face of goal. Coutinho tries to meet it in the middle, but Ederson and Dias do enough to get it away from danger.

Aston Villa
90' + 1' The goalscorer Bailey is withdrawn in the closing stages for Buendia.
90' + 1' SAVE! Martinez denies Foden with a super stop. Cancelo works an offload inside from the left flank to Foden, who takes it out of his feet and fires at goal. Martinez reacts quickly to push it away before Cancelo is caught offside from the rebound.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
88' OFFSIDE! Haaland and Gundogan combine to release Mahrez, but he smashes his right-footed drive wide of the target. Gundogan was offside anyway, but City need composure in the final third.
87' WIDE! Watkins loses possession in his own half and it allows Rodri to take control. He opts for a strike from distance that trickles inches wide of the left post. A great effort from the Spaniard.
85' City are looking slightly harried in possession. Their composure of the early stages of the second half has deserted them.
83' The game is very much in the balance with seven minutes to play. Gerrard would have snapped your hand if you offered this scoreline at this stage of the game before kick-off.
81' Bailey has ended a run of 1021 minutes without a Premier League goal. His last came in September 2021 against Everton.
N. Aké
K. Walker
Manchester City
80' Ake replaces Walker for the closing stages of the game. Stones moves out to the right flank, although it could signal a move to a back three.
80' Coutinho puts the ball into the back of the net, but the flag is up for offside against the Brazilian well before he beat his compatriot Ederson.
79' Ramsey makes another burst down the left flank after he rounds Rodri, but his cutback into the middle is cleared away by Dias.
79' City have paid for missing their opportunities and are now in a real battle in the final 11 minutes.
78' Martinez is going to tough it out after receiving treatment on the pitch.
76' Martinez is down for the home side with an apparent injury. City believe it is time-wasting, but the Villa keeper looks uncomfortable.

61' Silva and De Bruyne combine down the right flank and Mings has to act to divert a cross from the Belgian behind for a corner.
59' WIDE! Bailey latches on to Ederson's punch from a cross from Young and goes for an early strike, but he skews it wide of the left post.
58' CHANCE! Ramsey steals possession and then combines with Watkins to burst through on goal. However, he takes a poor touch in the box and allows Ederson to come off his line and push the ball away from danger.
55' Haaland is just the fifth player score in their first three Premier League away appearances after Peter Beardsley, Jürgen Klinsmann, Francesco Baiano and Alen Boksic.
54' Foden is played into space down the left flank and he whips a dangerous cross into the middle that Haaland just cannot reach on the stretch. The forward was offside anyway, but the threat remains.
52' Haaland has scored 10 goals in his first six Premier League appearances for Manchester City, the joint-fastest a player has reached 10 goals in the competition's history alongside Mick Quinn back in December 1992.

46' We're back under way at Villa Park.
Steven Gerrard will be delighted with his side's performance as they've given City very little in the final third, especially Erling Haaland. The Villans cannot afford to rest on their laurels and need another strong effort in the second half to see out a positive result.
It's goalless at the break between Aston Villa and Manchester City at Villa Park. It has been a half of few chances, and Villa arguably had the best opening when Ollie Watkins' strike was deflected narrowly wide of the post. The visitors have been restricted in their attempts at goal as Kevin De Bruyne fired wide, while Ilkay Gundogan was unable to steer his effort on target from close range.

36' De Bruyne clips a pass into the inside-left channel, but the ball just does not fall for Haaland. City have been close with a few of those moves, but have not executed it to perfection yet.
35' Cancelo and Foden combine with a one-two, allowing the Portuguese space to fire a cross towards the near post. However, his delivery is poor and straight at Martinez.
33' Gundogan tries to turn and release Haaland, but he misplaces his offload which travels straight through to Martinez.
30' Cancelo sends pass with the outside of his boot behind the Villa defence for Haaland to chase. However, it has too much pace on it and Martinez smothers it in his penalty area.
29' The injury to Cash has halted the rhythm that City had built up, which does help the home side for now, although the full-back has been a key player for the Villans.

19' BLOCK! McGinn has to put his body on the line to block a strike from Cancelo after a poor clearance from Cash puts Villa in trouble at the back. City still have a corner on the left flank.
16' City have settled into their rhythm, but have not managed to test Martinez yet. Villa need to try to disrupt the visitors' possesssion game.

6' Cancelo looks for a quick ball over the top for De Bruyne's run, but it bounces off the pitch and away from the midfielder into the hands of Martinez.
4' WIDE! City work the ball well out of tight quarters before Gundogan releases Walker in the inside-right channel. He has space and time, only to launch his effort wide of the target.

Villa have made only one change to their side from their defeat to Arsenal. Douglas Luiz comes into the side after scoring against the Gunners as he replaces Buendia. He may start behind the front two to press the visitors, although Gerrard may also deploy a four-man midfield.

Manchester City have been firing on all cylinders in the final third after putting six goals past Nottingham Forest during the week. Erling Haaland scored his second hat-trick in a row to take his tally to nine Premier League goals for the campaign. City look more dangerous than ever in the final third, but still need to churn out the results to keep pace with Arsenal and Tottenham at the top of the table.
Steven Gerrard is feeling the pressure at Villa after winning only one of their opening five matches in the Premier League. The Villans fell to their fourth defeat of the season during the week against Arsenal as Gabriel Martinelli's late goal condemned the Midlands outfit to 2-1 defeat. The club are in dire need of a response, but the one side you do not want to see when you need a victory is Manchester City. It is going to take a special effort from Gerrard and his team today.
