The ball was played back to Earps on the edge of her own box and she attempted to clear it upfield. However, Bunny Shaw, City's striker, charged the goalkeeper down and blocked the clearance, sending the ball into the back of Earps' net.

Earps has been one of the standout players for both United and England in recent seasons but, with Lionesses boss Wiegman watching on from the stands, this was a dismal error. The fact that it only increased City's lead, taking it to 3-1, and essentially tanked any chance of a comeback, was a further blow.

Earps remains United's most senior and most experienced goalkeeper so is likely to remain in the team despite this error. However, one has to think that she might be less inclined to play out from the back hereafter.
