WHAT HAPPENED?
A video has circulated on social media showing Keane and his fellow Sky Sports pundit Richards – who have struck up a close bond since bringing their respective playing careers to a close – becoming involved in a heated exchange with a supporter at Emirates Stadium.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The incident in question is said to have occurred as Keane made his way through Arsenal’s stadium to carry out his post-match analysis duties. The Daily Mail claims that he was confronted by a man in the West Stand while waiting for a lift, with a supposed headbutt aimed in the Irishman’s direction that ended up catching him on the chest and chin.
The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into the incident, although no arrests have been made as yet, with the force saying in a statement: "Police are investigating following an assault that is alleged to have occurred at the Emirates Stadium during an Arsenal v Manchester United match on Sunday, 3 September."
A spokesperson for Sky Sports also told the Mirror: "We understand the police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of the public immediately preceding the footage circulating on social media. In the footage seen, Micah Richards was acting to diffuse a situation."
DID YOU KNOW?
Security guards and Richards stepped in, with the former City man appearing to hold the man by the scruff of the neck, before the supporter in question was eventually taken away. Keane was heading towards pitchside at the Emirates shortly after Alejandro Garnacho thought that he had snatched a late winner for United in north London – only for that effort to be ruled out for offside.
