ISL 2017-18: 'What a bargain!' - 5 foreign players who are good value for money

Goal takes a look at the five foreign recruits who have proved to be the best value for money in Indian Super League...

  1. ISL

#5 Diego Carlos - FC Pune City

The 29-year-old Brazilian winger having an extremely famous first name joined Pune City in the summer for 24 Lakhs INR. He has since played a total of 11 games (out of 12) for the Indian Super League side.

Although he did take time to settle in, Carlos has picked up form and Pune have been reaping the benifits in their last few games. And guess what? Carlos is the lowest paid foreign player this season in Indian Super League!

  2. Bengaluru FC

#4 Edu Garcia - Bengaluru FC

The Blues spent just 56 Lakhs INR for the Spanish midfielder who has turned out to be a vital cog in Roca's midfield alongside Erik Paartalu and Dimas Delgado.

Garcia is Bengaluru's first choice set-piece specialist and his dangerous deliveries have managed to threaten defences ever since the beginning of the season. With one goal and five assists to his name from 11 games, the Spaniard is second on the chart for the most number of assists this season.

  3. ISL

#3 Mailson Alves - Chennaiyin FC

Mailson Alves and Henrique Sereno have managed to form a terrific centre-back partnership at Chennaiyin this season. The 30-year-old Brazilian defender has played  every single minute of Super Machans' ISL campagn this season and that shows how important he is to to John Gregory's plans.

Chennaiyin FC managed to get a big bargain with just above 63 Lakhs INR being spent for the defender's services this season. As they say, defence wins you trophies and Gregory's men are on the right track.

  4. ISL

#2 Gerson Vieira - Mumbai City

Another players who has played single minute of every single match in Indian Super League this season is Mumbai City player Gerson Vieira. Adept at defensive midfield and central defence, this Brazilian recruit cost just over 74 Lakhs INR for The Islanders.

Vieira has been exceptional under Alexandre Guimaraes for Mumbai. 43 tackles, 19 interceptions and 36 clearances make him one of the best performers at the back in ISL 4.

  5. ISL

    #1 Tiri - Jamshedpur FC

Indian Super League new entrants Jamshedpur wasted no time in pulling off a deal that saw Spanish defender Tiri switch allegiances in the summer. After leading ATK to an incredible title last season, the 26-year-old signed with Steve Coppell's team for the fourth edition ISL.

Tiri is the first name on the team sheet for Jamshedpur and has played every single game under Steve Coppell who knows how to get the best out of the defender. His centre-back partners Anas Edathodika and Andre Bikey are being rotated by the head coach but Tiri is a mainstay in the first team. His brilliant reading of the game is his biggest asset and that shows in the list of players who have made the most interceptions this season. The defender who cost Jamshedpur 91 Lakhs INR has made 23 interceptions and is just behind Ahmed Jahouh and Paulinho Dias on the list.

Jamshedpur defence is the best in the league with just 11 goals conceded in 13 games and Tiri's contribution to to that defensive record has been immense. If he is not great value for money, then who is?
