A section of fans in South Africa feel Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is paying the price of leaving Arsenal after he was excluded from Chelsea’s Champions League squad.
Aubameyang was among the big casualties of Chelsea’s big January spending as he was dropped from Graham Potter’s team for the knockout round of the competition to pave way for new signings Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk.
While some fans felt the former Gabon captain should have been retained, some feel his career is on a downward trajectory because he did not show respect to the Gunners before leaving for Barcelona in January 2022.
Chelsea fans think removing Auba from the UCL was something good. That's fine, but I really don't know why he wasn't given the same opportunity as [Kai] Havertz after playing 10 games and scoring just one goal. Aubameyang doesn't deserve this behaviour from [Graham] Potter. - @Neo__neuro
Straight up, we have done Auba dirty. Brought him in and sacked the manager he agreed to come to play under 12 days later. He's underfed despite knowing what type of player he is. Left out of the Champions League knockout stage over injured players, Carney [Chukwuemeka] and [Marcus] Bettinelli. He deserves respect.- @Maxwel_TheGist
This is disrespectful, what is RLC [Ruben Loftus-Cheek] doing in that squad? - Ben Herris
He will regret leaving Arsenal. No progress after leaving Arsenal, more so, when the club needs you most. In fact, a warning to the Arsenal players now. - Chardson Ndlovu
Aubameyang should accept that he is not his old self. He should calm down and accept to join clubs like Norwich City, with all due respect to Norwich. He scored two goals in the first three games for Barcelona and he started throwing shades at Arsenal. [Mikel] Arteta has been exonerated by time. Aubameyang is indeed a finished player. - Ray Supasta
But to be honest, when you're going to war, you need all your strong weapons! Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao [Felix]and Enzo Fernandez, these are their best signings. They can change the current situation of the team, they're not here to warm the bench. Hard luck to Aubameyang, that's so unfortunate for him, it's hard to swallow but he should accept the situation! -Bongani Dlamini
Just go back to Borussia Dortmund my brother. You know there [Dortmund], your career will get back on track. One of the best strikers in Africa. - Phogole Hlolo Chukudu
Happy with this decision, he’s been nothing but a burden, hopefully this will be a wake-up call for him to start improving his game. - Danca MH
Dropping Auba is one of the worst decisions we [Chelsea] have made. Auba needed the support of our midfielders, especially now that we have Mudryk, Felix and Enzo. Auba will be a good asset for us. - Prince Gbayan
All players that leave mighty Arsenal always have bad endings. This is why players shouldn't leave big teams for small clubs. - Konyen Lorua Luponi
If you can't survive under the leadership of [Mikel] Arteta, then you'll never succeed with that attitude boy. - Zane Wabantu
Yes, he is struggling to get his form but it's unfair on him. I feel sorry, they must be patient since we [Chelsea] don't have a natural striker. - Tshepo Tira Chirilex
