U.S. Women's Youth National Team squad beat England 3-0 to earn third place at FIFA Under-17 World Cup

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Under-17 U.S. Women's National team defeated England in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup bronze medal match on Sunday in the Dominican Republic. The USYNT beat England 3-0 to take home the bronze medal. Just a few days since falling to Korea DPR in the tournament's semifinals, the USYNT battled back to secure the team's first medal since the inaugural tournament in 2008.

Kennedy Fuller, a rookie for Angel City FC chipped in a combined goal with San Diego Wave's Melanie Barcenas, and an assist to propel her squad to the historic finish. Seattle Reign FC midfielder Ainsley McCammon and Maddie Padelski out of Alabama also scored stunners. Goalkeeper Evan O’Steen earned her fourth shutout of the tournament.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The USYNT has four professionals on the roster: Kimmi Ascanio, Melanie Barcenas, Kennedy Fuller and Ainsley McCammon. Fuller directly impacted seven of the USYNT’s 13 World Cup goals, a casual 54% of the team’s goals. The United States is the only country to reach the podium in each of FIFA’s three world championship events for women in 2024; the USWNT senior team in Paris, the Under-23's and the Under-17's.
