The U.S. Women's National team are through to the knockout round of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and forward Sophia Smith has been putting on a clinic in front of the goal. Smith, who was the NWSL's Golden Boot winner in 2023, scored a brace in the USWNT's 4-1 victory over Germany.
Smith is known for scoring goals, but she's also known by her teammates for being the go-to for all things skincare, beauty and fashion .
We’ve seen lots of hairstyles from our girl over the years. INDIVISA takes you on a little blast to the past as we break down the evolution of Soph’s up-do’s for game-day.
The early 'french era' days
We are starting out looking at young kids. High school. Plus, how fitting is it to kick off our timeline with something French? These French braids are slightly juvenile, super cute, and everything we never knew we needed. Will Sophia bring back the double French braids for Paris this summer? One can only hope, because that would be iconic.
Low effort, maintenance pony
A couple years later, she graduated high school and moved on to Stanford. Smith surely had tons on her plate, I mean, Stanford? OK, pop off, no need to flex on us Sophia. That said, the simple, low effort mid ponytail represents this era perfectly. It’s something easy and quick to style, leaving herself plenty of time for pre-game homework sessions.
Messy bun, clean play
Soph’s rookie season in the NWSL came with some spunk. What better way to tackle the transition to pro than with this style? It’s giving confidence. It’s giving power. She shut the whole league down. Or maybe that was COVID. Either way, we loved the messy bun moments from Smith.
Bubble braid, not afraid
Fun, funky, and fresh. Perhaps with her most memorable looks, this era might be our favorite. Nothing says, “I’m here, look at me!” like a bubble braid. Seriously, we certainly couldn’t look away. No wonder Smith won 2022 US Women’s Player of the Year. This is INDIVISA’s petition to bring these styles back.
Sleeky low-do era
Oh, she’s a seasoned professional now. A mature, sleek, yet stunning style. You know it, you love it. The fierce low bun, and the luscious low ponytail (like, look at the way her hair flows with the wind). This one’s got us buying hair gel and styling brushes so we can look like you.
We’ve seen the USWNT player, Sophia Smith, through a variety of up-do’s. But, if we had to bet, Soph will rock the low ponytail or bun in Paris. Tune in. And, you never know, maybe she’ll bring back this hairstyle for game day.
