The soccer pitch isn’t the only place these athletes are leaving their mark. Off the field, current and retired players are rocking some serious ink that tells unique stories. INDIVISA dives into the inked worlds of six women's soccer favorites.
Diana Ordóñez
Diana Ordóñez, the goal-scoring machine for Houston Dash, has one of the coolest auras in the league. Her ink is a mix of family love, christian faith, and Mexican pride. She has tattoos of her and mom and dad's birth years on her shoulder, too. She also has a dove for Jesus, a cross for faith, and a Bible verse. That’s a powerful combo if we’ve ever seen one. And let’s not forget the vibrant dahlia, a nod to her Mexican roots. Ordóñez’s tats are a little blueprint of her life.
Natasha Kai
OK, in all seriousness, from the 2008 gold medalist squad, Tash’s body is a living, breathing canvas of Polynesian pride and personal triumphs. Done the traditional way to represent her culture, her right arm is a masterpiece, a shield, and a celebration of her heritage. Many Polynesian tattoo artists use modern machines while still painting the traditional designs and their significance, but Nastasha got it done the traditional way – hand-tapped into the skin. She is tough as nails, with skin telling a story of strength, love, and courage through Family names, a Hawaiian hibiscus, and Japanese words of wisdom. With the work of Kat Von D for soccer related tattoos, Kai's ink is as bold as her game and her impact.
ImagnSydney Leroux
Sydney Leroux's journey from young dreamer to soccer superstar is written all over her body. Her tattoos are like chapters in her life story, with "Caterpillar" serving as a reminder of her incredible transformation. From honoring her mom’s support to celebrating the grit it takes to be the best, Leroux's ink is a powerful reflection of her path to the NWSL, where she now plays up top for Angel City FC.
Ashlyn Harris
Ashlyn is now retired, but her lasting impression on the game lives on. Harris played many years in goal for the USWNT, and was a walking, stopping, breathing force of nature. We’d say her ink is pretty fierce too. Representations of struggle, sacrifice, and success, with tattoos such as “I am the edge."
In case you need some good aftercare, she’s keeping her ink game strong with Mad Rabbit tattoo care. Jerami Dean Goodwin is recorded inking Harris.
Trinity Rodman
Our girl, Trin! Who is her tattoo artist? With her ink concentrated on her hands, “Turn your worry into wonder” is one she got professionally done and can you imagine anything more Rodman? We are in a space of wonder, awe even, after her Olympic gold medal run with the 2024 USWNT. With Rodman on the pitch, we never had the need to worry.
Megan Rapinoe
Megan Rapinoe is a name that really needs no introduction. Sports Hall of Fame, Olympic gold medalist, World Cup champion, the list goes on. We just need a little more talk about her tattoos. Rapinoe has a love letter to Sue Bird painted on her arm. There’s the mysterious "1985" and "M8" to spark a little bit of curiosity. With tributes to family, personal mantras, and some good old California dreaming, her tattoos are as complex and inspiring as what this athlete stands for. Rapinoe’s pictured with her squad in the studio of SEAVAN, New Zealand tattoo artist known for their delicate line work and unique designs.
These soccer stars prove that tattoos are more than just skin deep. They’re personal stories, powerful symbols, and a reflection of the incredible women behind the cleats.
