Amandine Henry finds a surprising new home in Liga MX Femenil

WHAT HAPPENED?

Amandine Henry has signed with Toluca in Liga MX Femenil. Last summer, Henry left Lyon and signed with the Utah Royals in the NWSL. The Royals have had a difficult season so far, sitting in 13th place with an overall record of 4-12-3.

Just days after terminating her contract with the Utah Royals, Henry opted for a fresh start in Mexico, leaving behind what many considered an inevitable return to Europe.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Toluca currently sits in 13th place out of 18 teams, far from the league’s elite. Henry’s decision to join the Diablas Rojas will very likely shake-up the Liga MX Femenil, where the usual powerhouses – such as Tigres and Club América – dominate.

Is this defensive midfielder the missing piece?

DID YOU KNOW?

Henry’s resume is stacked with silverware: Seven Champions League titles, 14 league titles, and eight domestic cups all while playing for Lyon. Not to mention, she wore the arm band for the French National Team from 2017 to 2020, continuing to play a key role in the midfield on their 2024 Olympic run in Paris.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR HENRY AND TOLUCA?

There is plenty for Henry to prove as she heads to Toluca. Anticipate a little bit of rediscovery, and some world-class talent as she attacks the pitch. Not only that, but a chance to turn Toluca's season around and challenge the bigger names in Liga MX Femenil.

Henry’s move could go down as a transformative moment for herself and the club. All eyes will be on Toluca to see how Henry adapts to Mexican football, but one thing’s for sure – this is a fresh twist in her career.
