Naeher reflected on her decision to retire in her postmatch interview:
"I had a lot of conversations with trusted people, my family, my friends, my [personal trainers]," she said. "At the end of the season, you take stock mental, physical [wise]. For me, I feel so fulfilled in the career that I've had with this team. It's just a special team to be a part of. I couldn't imagine or dream that I would have the opportunities that I've had. Everything that this team has fought for off the field.
"To be part of that is incredible as well. It's sad and it was always going to be hard to walk away from something that you love., but with it being a cyclical thing with the World Cup and the Olympics and everything being three-four year cycles, in my head, it just felt like the right time."
