USL Super League Power Rankings: Carolina FC Ascent unbeaten, Brooklyn home opener postponed, and DC Power show improvement

Who's hot and who's not? INDIVISA ranks USL Super League's eight teams

The USL Super League season is gearing up for it's third week, and after two weekends of fairly even matches, there are some big moments to highlight, and some major question marks.

Carolina Ascent is a clear favorite, unbeaten at home. Problems have surfaced in Brooklyn, with the team's field stated to be "unplayable" just two days before the New York team would play their season opener. With eight teams and the league's first season, there's lots to tackle in this week's power rankings.

NDIVISA breaks down who stood out this week, and who dropped in our rankings.

  • 8. Brooklyn FC

Brooklyn FC's home opener has been postponed. Said the club and USL Super League in statement: "Brooklyn FC’s home opener this Saturday against Carolina Ascent FC has been postponed. During installation of the soccer turf at Maimonides Park, the League and Brooklyn FC identified deficiencies that have rendered the field surface unplayable. The health and safety of our players, staff, and fans is our top priority and this decision reflects our commitment to their well-being. The match will be rescheduled for a later date."

Brooklyn FC has yet to play in this inaugural season, despite making some big signings before the league's start date in August.

  • 7. Tampa Bay Sun

Tampa Bay Sun certainly has the best game entrance - we're talking by boat - but has struggled to find their identity on the pitch, on both sides of the ball.

Although Tampa hasn't dropped a game yet, they have two draws after two weeks. Keeping the team in every game has proven to be goalkeeper Ashley Orkus, who has a 92.3% save percentage.

  • 6. DC Power

DC Power fell to Carolina in Week 1, but bounced back in Week 2 to show improvement both offensively and defensively.

Despite not scoring a goal as of yet, chances are being created and especially in the team's last match against Tampa Bay Sun on the road. DC Power will gear up to play Dallas Trinity next.

  • 5. Fort Lauderdale United FC

Fort Lauderdale United FC have just one game under their belts, and last weekend came back from an early goal against to tie on the road against Spokane Zephyr. Fort Lauderdale will next face Carolina in Week 4, and thus have another week to build on their foundation, push the tempo and figure out some formations both on the attack and defensively.

Players to keep an eye out for include 17-year-old Reese Klein, not only a Florida native but also a member of the U.S. women's youth national team.

  • 4. Spokane Zephyr FC

Spokane Zephyr FC's roster is stacked with talent from all levels of the game, and the team showed up in Week 1 earning a point against Fort Lauderdale United.

Spokane will await their next match on Sept. 8 against Brooklyn FC. Despite a few mishaps defensively in their opening game, the team moves the ball well on transition and their attack shows a lot of promise.

If Brooklyn can get their field playable, Spokane will enter Week 4 ready, rested, and turning to midfielder Emina Ekić to get the team on the board.

  • 3. Dallas Trinity FC

Dallas Trinity has only played one game, and showed a strong start in their 1-1 result against Tampa Bay Sun.

It's hard to mention Dallas without noting two of their top players, Chioma Ubogagu and Amber Brooks.

Both Ubogagu and Brooks looked exceptional in Week 1 play, creating lots of attacking chances and grabbing seven shots on target. Dallas will make history as they gear up to play FC Barcelona. This game is part of Barcelona's USA Tour, and the match will be played on Aug. 30 at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas.

  • 2. Lexington SC

Lexington SC gave the top seeded Carolina Ascent a run for their money in Week 2.

This was Lexington's season opener, and just after the second-half newest roster addition, Sydney Shepherd made history for the club.

In the 48th minute, Shepherd headed the ball into the bottom right netting of the goal to give Lexington the 1-0 lead. Although Carolina eventually came back, Lexington showed a lot of promise up top, through set pieces, and defensive transitions to earn this week's No. 2 spot.

  • 1. Carolina Ascent FC

Carolina Ascent FC remain the only undefeated team in the USL Super League. The Carolina club earned a point in Week 2 play against Lexington SC.

Carolina did give up a goal, but were able to equalize in the 76th minute thanks to Mia Corbin.

It's only right to give Philip Poole's side the top spot. After the game, Poole said:

“There [are] some things we need to work on, but it was really good to see our team have enough about them to come back and to work through some difficulties. All in all, it’s a good place to be on a Sunday evening at the top of the table. That’s the business we’re in.”
