Spain's top scorer who has begun a new chapter with Al-Qadsiah... who is Esther González?

<p><span>Born on 8 December 1992 in the Spanish city of Huéscar, González plays as a forward. She started out at Alhaurín, then turned out for Levante, Málaga and Sporting de Huelva before joining Atlético Madrid in 2013. Six seasons there brought 80 goals in 159 matches. A return to Levante followed between 2019 and 2021, where she netted 29 goals in 53 games.</span></p>

A long journey in the Spanish league

<p><span>González joined Real Madrid in 2021 and stayed until 2023. She featured in 54 league matches during that spell, scoring 30 goals. Add six goals from 17 domestic cup ties and five in nine Champions League games across the 2022-2023 season, and the picture is clear. Few attackers mattered more to the side in the Spanish capital.</span></p>

Her time with Real Madrid

<p><span>The Spanish striker moved to Gotham in 2023 and thrived there, twice helping the club to the American league title. The 2025 season proved her most prolific: 13 goals and an assist in 25 league matches. She managed 10 goals in 23 games the year before. According to Opta, her American league tally up to 2026 stands at 71 matches, 32 goals and five assists.</span></p><p><span>June 2026 brought another milestone. Gonzalez slotted home a penalty in the Challenge Cup final, becoming the first player to score in three different finals across American league competitions.</span></p><h2><br></h2>

Remarkable success with America's Gotham

<p><span>González has worn the Spain shirt since 2016, scoring 36 goals in 53 international matches. She was part of the squad that lifted the 2023 Women's World Cup. Two years on, she helped Spain to glory in the 2025 UEFA Women's Nations League.</span></p>

World champion with Spain

<p><span>Gonzalez left the United States after three seasons for a fresh challenge in the Middle East. She joined Saudi Arabia's Al-Qadsiah in August 2026, having terminated her Gotham contract for what she called personal reasons. It marks her first taste of the Saudi Women's League. She arrives with plenty of pedigree from Spanish and American football, plus an international CV that boasts the World Cup title and the UEFA Women's Nations League.</span></p>
