NWSL Power Rankings: Orlando Pride secure home playoff game, Houston Dash earn first win since May

It was another weekend of exciting NWSL games, with teams securing playoff spots, and the Orlando Pride earning a home playoff game for the first time in the club's history.

The Pride now are unbeaten in 22 straight games, the Dash got themselves a win for the first time since May, and the Spirit had a tough weekend.

Let's dive into INDIVISA's weekly NWSL power rankings.

    Utah Royals have now lost three-straight games, moving them to the last spot in the power rankings. Utah struggled to breakdown Gotham FC, and really only had a few chances on goal to Gotham's 10 shots on frame.

    The Royals have a lot of work to do to climb up the league standings, as they currently sit in last place with an overall record of 4-14-3.

    13Houston Dash ⬆️

    Houston Dash are moving up. This past weekend the Dash picked up three points for the first time in months, securing a 1-0 win over Seattle Reign FC.

    We can't mention the Dash's performance without including Yuki Nagasato's volley from the top of the box, which will surely be in highlight video across the NWSL for months.

    12San Diego Wave ↔️

    The San Diego Wave really tried to ride their wave from the week before, but fell to Chicago in a closely contested match up.

    The Wave dominated in chances on goal, 28 shots to Chicago's nine. The Wave also dominated the game's possession, however the early goal conceded was the difference maker.

    The Wave will now gear up to face the Thorns on Saturday.

    11Portland Thorns ↔️

    Portland Thorns are in 7th place in the league standings and tied Angel City on Monday night 2-2. The draw was packed with action, with the Thorns having more shots on goal (seven) to Angel City's (four). In the 64th minute it was youngster Olivia Moultrie who scored her fourth of the year after following the service of Kelli Hubly.

    The Thorns remain above the playoff line with five games left to go.

    Bay FC put up a good fight against Orlando, however they couldn't hold off Barbra Banda from scoring.

    Bay FC sits in 9th place in the league standings, and have some work to do in the next few weeks to secure a playoff spot.

    9Chicago Red Stars ⬆️

    Not sure how the Chicago Red Stars held on for the three points against the Wave over the weekend, but they did, and every win counts.

    The Red Stars defeated the Wave 1-0 and have now had back-to-back wins.

    8Angel City ↔️

    Angel City battled the Portland Thorns to a 2-2 draw on Monday, which marks their fourth draw of the season.

    Angel City sits below the playoff line in 10th place, with only five games remaining in the regular season.

    Alyssa Thompson scored the game's first goal in just the ninth minute, and then after conceding two goals, it was Claire Emslie who scored the equalizer in the 75th minute.

    Angel City will go again on Friday night, this time against the Washington Spirit.

    7Seattle Reign ⬇️

    Seattle Reign FC drops this week after falling to the Houston Dash.

    Reign FC are in 11th place in the league standings, and despite having the majority of the game's possession, they weren't able to get one back after the Dash's half volley from outside the box.

    6North Carolina Courage ⬇️

    The North Carolina Courage drop this week after falling to Racing Louisville 2-1 on the road.

    The Courage did dominate the game's possession, however were not able to find the back of the net. Good news for the Courage though is that Kerolin took the pitch and didn't waste any time creating for the North Carolina side.

    5Racing Louisville ⬆️

    Racing Louisville defeated the Courage 2-1, in a thrilling stoppage time match.

    Emma Sears tied the game up 1-1 in the 79th minute, and in stoppage time it was Bethany Balcer's penalty shot to secure the 2-1 victory at home. Louisville sits above the playoff line in eighth place.

    4Washington Spirit ⬇️

    The Washington Spirit fell 3-0 to the Kansas City Current, in a game that in no way went the Spirit's way.

    The game started off rough for the Spirit, who went down a goal just three minutes into the match. In the 30th minute, Lo Labonta doubled the score for the Current.

    The Spirit tried to hang on and get one back, but Trinity Rodman's exit due to a back spasm was another tough one for the Spirit. The Spirit have already secured a playoff berth, and still sit in second place in the league standings, so will just need to brush off this past weekend's game and go again.

    3NJ/NY Gotham FC ⬇️

    Gotham FC secured a playoff berth in their win over Utah Royals on Sunday.

    Gotham has now won five of their last six games, and sit in third place in the league standings with a 13-4-4 overall record.

    2Kansas City Current ⬆️

    Kansas City Current dominated the Spirit at home, winning 3-0. The Current clinched a spot in the playoffs with the win, and Temwa Chawinga scored her 16th goal of the season.

    Chawinga and the Current are a force to be reckoned with on the attack, and continue to prove week after week how many attacking chances they can create.

    1Orlando Pride ↔️

    Once again, the Orlando Pride holds the top spot. The Pride are now unbeaten in 22 straight games, and have officially clinched a home playoff game.

    The Pride beat Bay FC 1-0, and it was Barbra Banda's goal that would was the difference maker.

    Banda scored her 13th goal of the season, which ties the Pride's record for most in a single season (alongside teammate Marta).
