INDIVISA looks at NWSL players likely to rep their nations at this summer’s tournament

In just six months the marquee tournament of the year, the Women's Euro 2025 will kick off. NWSL is brimming with exciting European talents that could represent their teams in Switzerland.

There’s plenty of time for transfers and changes, or other eligible players to make their case. But INDIVISA looks at some NWSL players likely to rep their nations at this summer’s tournament.

    Jess Fishlock: Wales/Seattle Reign

Beloved NWSL veteran Jess Fishlock will finally get to represent Wales in a major international tournament as The Dragons make their debut this July. At 38, the Seattle Reign midfielder is Welsh Football’s all-time leading scorer and could be key to their success in Group D.

    Angharad James-Turner: Wales/Seattle Reign

Fishlock isn’t the only veteran Welsh footballer preparing for a big summer with Seattle Reign, as 30-year-old midfielder Angharad James-Turner has had a few stints in NWSL in between sojourns across England, before settling in with the Reign in 2024. With over 100 caps to her name, James captains The Dragons and will have a big impact on their success.

    Lily Woodham: Wales/Seattle Reign

And yet: there’s more. The 24-year-old Cardiff-born defender has fewer appearances for The Dragons than her Seattle teammates, but she’s made a big impact the past few years. Woodham scored the lone goal in a 1-1 Euro playoff draw against Ireland this December, which preceded a 2-1 win in Dublin to seal their spot in Switzerland.

    Ana Maria Crnogorčević: Switzerland/Seattle Reign

The tournament hosts could feature a few NWSL players in their squad. That includes yet another Reign player: the versatile and decorated 34-year-old winger/fullback Ana Maria Crnogorčević. Across an impressive club career spanning Germany, Spain, and the US, Crnogorčević has won the coveted UEFA Champions League with Barcelona, while scoring 70+ goals in 150+ appearances for Switzerland.

    Ramona Bachmann: Switzerland/Houston Dash

The 34-year-old Ramona Bachmann has also had an impressive career across Europe before moving to NWSL, playing in Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, England and France. Bachmann also played for the now-defunct Atlanta Beat in 2010. The Swiss forward's goal-scoring prowess and experience could be key for La Nati.

    Natalia Kuikka: Finland/Chicago Red Stars

On Dec. 3, Kuikka scored the first of two goals in Finland’s 2-0 playoff win against Scotland, which sealed their spot in this summer’s tournament.

The 29-year-old Chicago Red Stars defender has accrued a number of trophies playing soccer in the United States, including the 2018 NCAA Championship as a Florida State Seminole, as well as the 2022 NWSL Championship and 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup while playing for Portland Thorns. Kuikka has been named Finland’s Football Player of the Year on numerous occasions and can expect to be in Switzerland this summer.

    Jéssica Silva: Gotham/Portugal

The 30-year-old Jéssica Silva moved back to NWSl from Portugal in August 2024. With 100+ caps for Portugal to her name - including a pivotal role in Portugal’s 0-0 draw with the USWNT at the 2023 World Cup - Silva is a stalwart feature for A Selecção das Quinas.

    Hanna Lundkvist: Sweden/San Diego Wave

The 22-year-old Hanna Lundqvist has made a handful of senior team appearances for Sweden, including as a starter in both legs of their Euro playoff against Serbia. The Wave right back was named to the 2023 World Cup team but was ruled out due to injury, and could make her major tournament debut this summer.

    Felicitas Rauch: Germany/North Carolina Courage

Feli Rauch has been a mainstay of Die Naitonalelf for a few years now. She was originally named an alternate for the Paris Olympics, but played a key role in their bronze medal run after replacing a teammate due to illness. The 28-year-old versatile fullback can expect to be in rotation for the Euro squad.

    Ann-Katrin Berger: Germany/Gotham

Gotham’s 34-year-old goalkeeper was named Germany’s 2024 Women's Footballer of the Year after playing an immense role in their bronze medal summer. The Olympics were Berger’s first major international tournament as the starting keeper for Die Nationalelf. She could see that role continue this summer if she continues her form.

    Delphine Cascarino: France/San Diego Wave

Few international teams are more talented than France, but with no major international trophies to show for it. The 27-year-old Delphine Cascarino is just one of their many attacking talents. After missing the ‘23 World Cup with an ACL injury, she could be key to their success if she’s healthy this summer.

    Julie Dufour: France/Angel City

Dufour is one of the most interesting offseason signings this year, as she moved to Angel City from Paris FC. The 23-year-old forward has yet to really crack into Les Bleues, but has a handful of caps and could impress with a big season in NWSL.

    Anna Moorhouse: England/Orlando Pride

The contest to be England’s starting keeper in their title defense will be a fierce one. Moorehouse isn’t likely to be in contention for the top spot, but could battle for a role in the roster with another strong year in NWSL. Moorhouse was named to the 2024 NWSL Best XI as a key player in Orlando’s record-setting, Championship and Shield-winning year, and has earned call ups to the England squad through the end of 2024.

    Jess Carter: England/Gotham

The 27-year-old English defender Jess Carter could be vying for a starting role in Sarina Wiegman’s Euro team, but will almost certainly have a role to play in the roster even if she doesn’t claim a spot in the starting XI. The versatile player was a part of the 2022 Euro Championship team, and was a key starting player in their second-place finish in the 2023 World Cup.

    Esme Morgan: England/Washington Spirit

The 24-year-old centre back has fewer appearances for the Lionesses, but was a part of their 2023 World Cup team and has been named to their recent camps. With another strong season for last year’s second-place NWSL team, Morgan is a strong candidate for England’s EURO squad in Switzerland.

    Isabella Obaze: Denmark/Portland Thorns

The 22-year-old Danish defender Isabella Obaze moved to Portland at the start of 2024 after a few years in Denmark and Sweden. Obaze has only made a few appearances for Denmark, but has played a role in their most recent friendlies (including a goal against South Africa in October) and can expect to fight for a role this summer.
