The Ghana international is counting on The Canaries' new boss to bring them back to winning ways

Nantes striker Abdul Majeed Waris believes the arrival of new manager Vahid Halilhodzic will turn their fortunes around for good in the French Ligue 1.

The Serbian coach took over from Miguel Cardoso as boss of The Canaries on Tuesday following their poor start to the season.

Ahead of matchday nine, the club sit second from bottom on the twenty-team table, having won one, drawn three and lost four of matches played thus far.

"I already played with the coach [Halilhodzic] in Turkey at Trabzonspor [in 2014]," Ghana striker Waris told a press conference on Friday.

"He is strong and has a very strong mentality. He develops the culture of work. We will work a lot with him.

"He will prepare us to win absolutely every game. He has a mind of steel."

His work cut out, Halilhodzic will hope to begin Nantes' renaissance with three points in Sunday's away clash with Bordeaux.

"Coach Vahid comes with new tactics" Waris added.

"It is very important for the team to have a positive mindset and to work hard to adapt to changes.

"This week, he particularly focused on the team's state of mind.

"He's very direct and, with him, the whole team works a lot. We focused immediately on the match against Bordeaux to be ready for Sunday.

"We have made some tactical changes, but I cannot talk about it for now. It will be necessary to wait until the end of the match."

Waris, who is on a season-long loan from Portuguese giants Porto, has made eight league appearances involving five starts so far for The Canaries.
