While the attention of the media is curently focussed on the saga involving Selangor's new Indonesian signings Evan Dimas Darmono and Ilham Udin Armaiyn, it is easy to forget that Spanish striker Rufino Segovia was the first foreign player, and among the first players to be confirmed by the Red Giants for the 2018 season.

Having arrived in the 2017 mid-season transfer window, the 32-year old striker immediately proved his mettle, scoring in almost every match he appeared in for the Red Giants, bagging a total of 10 goals.

Having confirmed his contract extension in mid-November last year, the former Atletico Madrid and Kitchee player was able to join Selangor' pre-season training early, and has been the club's only foreign signing to attend training so far.

But now that the Evan and Ilham saga has been resolved, the pair is expected to join the team this weekend, and Rufino looks forward to welcoming them.

"We (the players) are happy to get to know them. I've only seen videos of them playing.

"But I'm sure they are good players. I want to get to know them and start training with them. When we start training together I'm sure we can understand each other well," remarked the Spaniard when met after training on Thursday.

He has also spoken positively of their new training venue and home ground. Earlier this week, the Red Giants started training at the National Sports Council, Bukit Jalil while this season they are expected to play their home games at the 87,000-seater Bukit Jalil National Stadium (SNBJ).

"I'm happy because the stadium is bigger (than their previous home ground)," said Rufino, "it's a newer stadium and it's beautiful. I think more fans will come and support the team now.

"I'm also happy because the training pitch is very nice. I can see the stadium from here (the training ground). This is what's best for the team; a good field and a good stadium. I'm happy."
