The captain of the Peace Boys is awed by the cash reward and land gifts for the team’s league title win

Plateau United skipper, Elisha Golbe says the largesse from the state government will spur them to aim higher when the 2017-18 season commences next month.

The Peace Boys won the Nigerian top-flight title for the first time last term and were rewarded with cash gift totalling 80 million naira and landed property in Jos for the 40 players, coaches and other officials of the team.

“This is a very good incentive from the state government. We do not have anything to encourage us more than this. I am short of words to describe this wonderful gift from the government. The onus now lies on us the players to do more knowing that we are going to be rewarded even better than what we just received,” Golbe told Goal.

“We have waited for this day to come. We thought it won’t come again after the delay. We have been surprised by the state government cash gift and the plots of land. I am saying on behalf of the team that we will ensure Plateau United retain the league title in the upcoming season.

“We have not done too well in our pre-season activities but it is expected that this reward from the government should spur us to wake up from our slumber and ensure that we lift ourselves up,” he added.

The reigning league champions will begin their title defence in Lafia with a tie against Nasarawa United on January 14.
